In her majesties empire of the dead name!
« on: May 08, 2013, 12:08:38 PM »
Curious  ???

Why are all the IHMN threads on the VSF forum and the EOTD threads all in the gothic horror forum??

For me both games cover exactly the same genre/s

Since they both feature VSF steam punk stuff they should all be in VSF forum.

I have played EOTD and quite enjoy it. Yet to play IHMN but will soon.

My two cents

Cheers
Fuzzy.
Crikey, sir. I'm looking forward to today. Up diddly up, down diddly
down, whoops, poop, twiddly dee - decent scrap with the fiendish Red
Baron - bit of a jolly old crash landing behind enemy lines - capture,
torture, escape, and then back home in time for tea and medals.

I suppose half of the original EOTD factions are entitrly gothic horror - Vampires, Werewolves - so they swing heavily that way.

I know I like to swap a bit back and forth, but I pretty much tend towards a horrific visitation on the rare occasion, and do not feel cheated if it ends up with a mundane explanation.

I do notice many wanting to adapt IHMN figs to EotD campaigns; makes sense, especially as you want some constabulary to face off against the children of the night, and make some beautiful music of their own.

However, a fair number of the IHMN talents SOUND old style horror.

;) Neither have I; haven't got them yet.

However, some things that show in AAR's, I mean, Ra folk have a mummy and priest with mind-clouding powers, sounds darn horror to a simple folk like moi.

It has Thule society zombies too! But it seems that its been squarely placed in the VSF category.

Aren't they 'scientifically' raised in IHMN as opposed to mystically raised?

I guess I'm just lazy. Now I have to visit two forums to get my VSF fix  ;D
(Like I didn't already!)

The Tod-truppen in IHMN begin each game as normal Prussian Jagers, loyal to the Society of Thule. Should they perish then Dr Kobalt's Revivifier, which is firmly strapped to their chests, injects them with a cocktail of chemicals and begins administering electric shocks.

The Tod-truppen arise, bereft of their former skills, but dimly aware of their duty to the Society. They fight on, numb to pain or fear, a ghastly sight for one and all.

Their one main drawback is they must remain close to the carrier of an Arc Generator for that is what powers their Revivifier.

The other 'undead' figure in the Rulebook's Companies is the Mummified Priest who can be summoned to serve the reincarnated Pharaoh Akhenaten. These are far more cunning opponents and can still use some of their former mystical powers.

The rules include a fully-featured points system so that if you want some more of the staples of gothic horror you can quickly create and cost them. There will be more gothic elements in Heroes, Villains & Fiends, the supplement that shall be published in November.

Cheers,
Craig.

My own foray into creating a unique company has resulted in the Al-Rakim Brotherhood, the secret power behind the Mahdi after his defeat at Khartoum. I have a magick user called Malchor who raises his dead followers to fight on. He also has a Djinn to act as muscle.Using the design rules, I invented a new mystical power, used the stats for Tod-Truppen to create zombies who fight using melee weapons (the Harryhausen way, God bless him!) and created two middle eastern 'fantasy' themed characters. Even better, I have all the figures i need for the company, even down to the zombie Mahdists!

IHMN - the VSF game I've wanted for years!

A demo game of IHMN will be at Partizan on 2nd of June, it is the game from Salute re-born.  :D

I shall also be at Partizan helping out where I can :)

Will you be bringing your desert power company to that?

Possibly, although they are no doubt embroiled back in 1885 in our new Sudan campaign, 'Gordon's Alive!', a cunning blend of Death in the Dark Continent for the big battles and IHMN for the skirmishes. So far, under cover of a bandit raid, a Djinn was dispatched by loyal Sikh soldiers but Malchor managed to flee the scene with one of the lost books of Al-Rakim, thereby enabling nefarious deeds to be perpetrated in the ruins of Ak-Lam...

So, unless they can time travel, the Brotherhood may be rather stuck - perhaps they need a Master to help them... ???
