@palaeomerus

Great find, I will give it a try. The price at amozon.de is pure extortion ... 34,95 EUR!!!! When I find a low bugedt source of supply, I will post some pics how it scales in 1:56.

Don't used 40K Tau ships go cheap on ebay?  Kids lose interest in that army fast, no giant bloody chain axes or skulls.

I have one for my space nazis.

I've eyed that Iron Man ship too and think it should work.  Here's some other ideas I had (if you don't mind some digging for some out of production items).

This isn't a "dropship", but still useful for some scenarios and a good size from Halo.  I picked up one and it fits pretty well with 28mm (leans probably closer to 1:43 than 1:50 though):

I also managed to pick up a Mechwarrior Aurora Class Dropship from Craigslist.  It's a beast!  There's one featured in this thread...it's a steep investment on eBay though:

http://infinitythegame.com/forum/index.php?/topic/16609-ariadnapan-o-arctic-research-station-o/page-2

You mentioned the ISSCV Dropship, and they seem to go for reasonable amounts on eBay (maybe a tad small at 1:60, but I haven't seen one in the flesh):

http://www.ebay.com/itm/290941655693?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

If you can find them, I really like this retrieval ship from the Starship Troopers toys:

More pics on this page:

I also like the Tac Fighter from Starship Troopers.  I have a couple and they look great with their wings up:

I also like these small flyers from Robogear:

That's cool and I hadn't seen it before.  It should fit in pretty well with my Wizkids Halo stuff.  Thanks!

I have one of those hornets sat on my cupboard in it's box... If you are in the UK, £25-00 (including postage)and it's yours (outside UK will be a little bit more).

Check this thread for a pic with some GI Joe aircraft converted to small space ships.

More info at his blog, so check it out.  I've "borrowed" a lot of ideas from this blog.

What about using an APC hull? A cheap 1/35th scale AFV might give a useful hull but would require a fair bit of work. The BMP and LAV-25 families both look as if they have potential for this. I got as far as buying a Trumpeter LAV-25 kit but became distracted and the project was postponed.

I once saw a really nice landing craft made from a German Puma vehicle... I expect a half-track would work too.

What of the UD-12 Chickenhawk? I havent built one personally so i dont know of its size.

It's a good size shuttle, probably sort of based on the Firefly in regard to its overall design. But blockier because of its papercraft medium. I've built several now, and I'm really pleased with them. Here's the latest one, which features actual rotating engine pods, courtesy of a length of balsa dowel and copious amounts of fiddling and swearing:

And here she is with the only size comparison I have up on the web at the moment. That's a miniature version of her, to match the Silent Death fighters, but the mini Proposal is based on a standard hex base there, so you get some idea of size:

I printed this one on A4 paper at 100% size. But I do plan on printing one on A3, at 140%, and using that as a template to make a larger one in plasticard, with a fully functional interior. Long term plans though... ::)
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...
Find a Way, or make one!

That is a promising start. Come on, finish it. Its more promising than mine scrathbuilt project. ;)

Here is one more alternative. No bargain, but I like the retro-look!
