'Of Gods and Mortals' the fifth Osprey Wargame
« on: May 15, 2013, 08:36:31 PM »
I'm starting to sneak out the info that we (North Star) will be making figures to go with the fifth Wargames rulebook from Osprey Publishing.

It's called 'Of Gods and Mortals', and is a game of Mythical combat. The little bit of info we have so far in on our web page.

Steve Saleh is busy sculpting away, so far we have Thor, Seth, Ares and Cernunnos ready.

It's not out till November this year, so we'll be showing pictures of the figure range as it goes.

I'd spotted it on Amazon but I was holding off until I could order it from Northstar.

Are you planning a 'Nickstarter' or just plain old pre-orders for this one Nick?

Get some pictures up man, none of this bloody teasing!  ;)

Reminds me of the old Age of Mythology computer game. Good memories, that is. :)
And if Steve Saleh is in, this is definitely something to look forward to.

Cernunnos? Nice to see Celtic mythology getting some attention. Usually it's the Big Three; Egyptian, Greek and Norse. I shall watch this with interest.

It is 'Age of Mythology' lol

Except you can have the God on the table-top of course.

With this being a November release, there is a high chance I'll get a Nickstarter going for it. The Ronin game is coming up too soon for us to do a Nickstarter, so we'll do it for OGaM.

Any orders placed now for the book with us will go towards your Nickstarter total.

Cheers
Nick

Any similarity to Song of Blades and Heroes?

I hope not. SoBaH is good for what it does but for 'themed' games I prefer more depth.

It does say on Nothstars website that it does use the Song of Blades engine. Be interesting to see how it plays with gods though.

I might just stick with Crooked Dices 7th Voyage.

my first read was "of Gods and Mortars"  now that would be a strange but interesting theme......

The engine is similar to SOBH, but it's not the same by a long shot. If you're familiar with the system, you'll pick this up quickly, but it does introduce several new elements, most fundamental of which is the interplay and interdependence between the gods, the legends and creatures of myth, and the mortal troops.

It will also contain a full points system for building your own pantheons or developing additions to the existing four.

I swiftly went off the "roll to activate figure" rule as it breaks the immersion to have some bad dice rolls make soldiers stand doing nothing but dribble for ages. I will still give this a look but it may not be what I was hoping for.

This sounds really interesting! I'm keen to see the miniatures, even if only concept designs at this stage.

Cheers,

Kev

The miniatures are underway. Unfortunately Mr Dallimore, our man with the photo skill, in on holiday. When he's back we'll get pictures out there.
