Tiny Tiny City - CROSSROAD!
« on: May 20, 2013, 11:24:44 AM »
Hi there!

The progresses on this projects are extremely slow, but i might have something to show, together with my islands in another thread.

a closeup of the facades. details are pretty sharp.

the only thing i'm not really convinced about is the disposition of the houses. I would love to have a higher density of houses, but as the facades are those, i don't know how to do.

comments are welcome =)
Cheers
Jack

EDIT: well, messing with some spare houses i managed to obtain something more ... dense. The problem is still there, but quite less evident. :)

How can you manage to do anything that small  o_o

The facades look great, what would be the benefit of the higher density?

What kind of amazing beautiful insanity is this? o_o :)

They look lovely!

What is your idea about these? A complete board? Different bases which could be combined to form streets and so...?

They look good although I'd like to see some paint or primer on them  8)

You've probably already though of this but have a look at city plans and maps for layout inspiration.

The only thing that bothers me about it is the fact that twins and cities don't just stop, they sort of peter out at the edges. Maybe some smaller houses with larger gaps in between would help to alleviate this.

that's one of my major concerns, actually.
First of all, those houses are meant to be re-casted in groups, to allow a bigger scale casting, so no primer will touch them ever. :)

I did some experiments on a single house in my island here:

But i think that maybe casting them in ceramic plaster and paint direclty with washes will thin the paint layer at its best. Just thoughts.

Hehe, i've a man on that. B-)
Actually, the borders of a city can be made with more rare buildings, but using the same ones, maybe cutting out a floor or two. If i manage to sculpt some city walls, otherwise, i can just use them as separator.

Rule the Skies, a ruleset created (well, really WIP) by our self. Basically, a heavy modification of full thrust, which didn't work very well for us.

Jim, your impressions about the "end" of the village? they are 2-3 floor houses, not big buildings.

Looking mighty fine I say!  :-*

Layout looks good and proper, will be nice to see those with some road network. Put a river, few bridges etc and perhaps not all of them on flat ground?

Yes, that's pretty much the idea with more space inbetween.

lol lol lol lol lol

anyway, that is just a part of the set i'll use for making the city. i'm planning something around 50 cm wide, with some countryside outside. It will be for the centerpiece of the table.
I'll keep everything flat (just for storing purposes, it's much more solid), but will add a river for shure (a BIG river, a realistic one) ,and probably a lasercut bridge. :)
