that's the way to go, smaller squares and more street, angles different than 90 degrees, looks more natural

Absolutely great, that's right, it looks quite natural that way. Maybe you can display a few more spare houses on the outskirts, just to avoid the sensation of 'dense population in a few blocks, then nothing'. Some small rural villas right out of the town, maybe a farm.
What about a tiny plaza with a fountain? A small town hall with a little arcade? A local church/chapel/hermitage? Just random ideas about european-like town planning
(It's easy giving absurd ideas when I'm not going to carry them out, sorry ;D)

actually, i'm feeling the urge to 3d print much more stuff: little houses, churches, government buildings, country farms... well, i'll do, one day =) For the moment i'll make those city blocks, and assemble a little town. Probably just a diorama, for the moment. :)

How much did they run you?

around 10$ for the three buildings, i think. Then i had to make a couple of molds to multiply them and mod them ^^"

Yowzah! :o :-*

On the subject of 'city limits', how about natural boundaries on one or two sides? Could at least help the 'petering out', if not providing an abrupt wall.  E.g. in my wee village a stream runs under the bottom of the main street, ending it pretty sharply, with just a handful of two-up-two-downs and a couple of 'big houses' on the other side. Looks like you've got provision for a few clifftop views, too.

In fact, I don't know if this is typical (especially of times gone by), but thinking about it: most of the smaller buildings are 'attached' types, in or towards the centre of the village. The more detached buildings towards the outskirts tend to be larger, with larger gardens and grounds, churches, schools, etc. before they give way to fields and further-out farms.

eh... the problem of the borders is still open, but now i can officially say that i've a working mould. thus, i started casting some pieces.

the first "block" is painted, but i'm not really happy with the result. any advice?

Ok, just to remind to all of you: they are REALLY SMALL! :D

Cheers, and thanks for any suggestion. :)

They looks good to me although a little less on the shading, some subtle highlighting on the roof and maybe a lighter colour on some of the front facing elevations to help make look a little less samey  :)

at the moment i'm trying to do another block, without the shading. just flat paint and pigments. well... it's my first time painting buildings at this scale, some experiments are mandatory! ^^

without the wash, they will have for sure much more variety!

These are beautiful! Just fantastic work.

And you are so much more mature than I am—I would be planning the layout of these buildings to spell out rude words when viewed aerially.

Little little fiddly bits and pieces.
Where do you get the bionic eyes from?
And the patience!

Unbelievable!

Glazing technique
here some theory
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glaze_%28painting_technique%29
https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sfumato

contrasting underlayers, colour, not tonal washes

thanks guys! No bionic eyes, actually it's no different than painting a face.

seriously, glazes are possible on such a small scale? i'm quite a decent painter, with miniatures. But glazing a 7mm facade is quite of my reach.
anyway. i tried to do the same as before but without the wash... looks like the problem is the pigment, now. I need to have something more highlighted at the end, but ...really, i cant just manually highlight all the windows. that might be crazy!

Complessively, i‘m still unhappy of the painting result. i‘ll have to work on this much more. a good suggestion on another forum was to drybrush instead of darken... i‘ll try it today.
