The Ghost and the Darkness game (with pics)
« on: November 06, 2006, 10:41:33 AM »
Hello all,

Only show you some pics from our last night game based in the film "The Ghost and the Darkness". I'm in love with the Foundry lions miniatures and try a new scenario for them. I remenbered the film, with Coronel Patterson and hunter Remignton join efforts to seek and destroy the two evil lions that are slauthering the workers of the railroad company building a bridge over Tsavo river.

The rules used were an adaptation of NUTS! from THW but it's very easy to adapt the scenario to 0.45 Adventure.

I hope you will like the idea,

Regards

Eladio Fernandez

Great looking game! How did it turn out for the Hunters and the Lions. It looks like some of the bearers got the short end of the stick (or claw as the case may be.)

Excellent! I've always been fascinated by the Man-Eaters of Tsavo since reading about them in a book of true manly adventure stories when I was a kid (it also had a chapter on Otto Skorzeny rescuing Mussolini in it).

I always thought "The Man-Eaters of Tsavo" would have been a better title than "The Ghost and the Darkness." Could never really get into that film, strangely enough. Perhaps my vision of it was too bound up in the book version. That had clean-cut Brits with small neat moustaches and Brill-Creamed hair, not dirty-looking, straggly long-haired scruffy Americans!

You should do the Man-Eaters of Njombe next! It's reckoned they killed 1000 people over a 15 year period. The TV movie about them has a cool evil witch-doctor, who claims responsibility for the attacks, which would make a cool scenario.

We played two games. In the first one the two evil lions ( but only one diabolic human mind behind) win the game eating all the workers plus Remigton (he fail to recharge his Big Game rifle at time) and Patterson ( chased by the two lions, see the pics).

In the second the humans were more lucky (or more tricky), many of the workers exit the table boards running in all directions and distracting the lions, so were ambushed by the white hunters.

The game looks absolutely beautiful. May I ask who manufactures those lions? Could it be they are the Foundry ones? The last time I saw them they still were in "green" stage in the Compendium...

Great looking game. I have always wanted to do a version of this myself. I think you have inspired me to rethink the game :)

Great game, Eladio! I think you're right about it being a good .45 Adventures scenario too.

If the scenario ended differently each time you played it, it sounds like you came up with a good one. I like that the lions won the first time.  :)

The Lions are from Foundry, a wonderfull blister with three lions. The natives are a mix of West Wind and Foundry figures. Also Patterson and Remigton.

Thank you for all  your compliments,

The Palm Trees and the  hawthorn shrubs are Christmas time decoration, it's very easy to found in Spain during the Christmas holidays.

Thanks for your compliments,

Great idea for a gaming topic.
I also wanted to do it when i bought me the Foundry Lions which are great.
But now I will dump it. Or maybe a lion hunt only with Massai ?
We will see. Anyway....the idea is good and it looks nice on the pictures.
A bit more scenery would make the overall view a little better !
Cheers
