I'm pretty foggy on pre-1700s ships. Does anyone make something suitable for this in 28mm?

zvezda has a good ship for that!

These ships were used by the Spanish and Portuguese to explore the new world.
Main Features:
- Sails are made of vacuformed polystyrene
- Model length: 14.8"
- 211 pieces

and if I'm not mistaken there was already a fellow LAFer that used it for pirating adventures, with good result!

Revell also did a nau in about 1/100 scale. Yes a bit too small for 28mm but would make a nice table piece. I have one unbuilt in my collection, picked it up cheap.
