Fastlane Western Express Scale?
« on: June 14, 2013, 05:07:34 PM »
All,
So I grabbed a Fastlane Western Express off of ebay for $30.00, and anxiously awaited its arrival.  It came today, and I opened it with my grand daughter's help.  To my eye, it looks far too large for even my Black Scorpion figures.  Isn't it supposed to be O Gauge?

from what I know there are two scales of the Western express. How wide is the track? 3 cm? that would be
0 gauge

Yep, 3 centimeters.  The cars just look large to me.  Maybe I just picture trains as smaller?

in my experience most people picture trains as smaller. However, 0 gauge can vary between 1/43 and 1/48 depending on the country and the model You have is not true 0 gauge if I recall it correctly. Search for some pictures with similar waggons on the net and people for comparison. Sizes haven't changed much with tunnels staying the same

Fastlane's is to a toy scale and not all parts scale at the same size anyway.

It's popularity is due to affordability, availability, and a "close enough" factor, so if it doesn't feel right don't worry.

Yeah, some trains are pretty damn big!  I do think the scale is a little off, but not enough to offset the full train for $30.  I did ruin my windows so I need to re-do them and still finish the other parts...and weather it...grrr...

If you don't like it, surely someone here will buy it off ya or something.

Nah,  I will definitely hang onto it and get it painted and weathered.  Right now though, my grand daughter and I are having fun with it.  To brag some, at 2 years and 8 months, she figured out how to connect the track sections.

Crazy thing is, that while the bodies of the cars look big, holding a BS figure up to the doors, they look right.

I did this a while ago.  The one that I have seems to fit my black scorpion figures fine.

The only issue I have with the Fast Tracks set is that its very "English" looking. Each car only has four wheels and they are held rigid to the frame rather than on swivel trucks like an American train.
