They are both outstanding and it was hard to decide where to place my vote. Very well done, all!

Just come back off leave all nicely relaxed, I'm now totally frustrated as I'm unable to choose between these two brilliant entries.

Brilliant work by both entrants! How did you make the rocks in 'Action'?

Now the votes are over I'd like to say that the Action one edges it for me, the behind the scence touches were a stroke of genius and solthing I had not seen on LPL before (though it could have happened alread) so they tipped it for me. When it came down to two very close entires I thought the mis-en-scene was really artistic!

Gotta agree with Adam.
This is exactly what tipped it for me, too.

Two stunning entries and this was the only way that I could seperate them.

Yes, i'm sure a lot of people will have gone the same way for the same reason. I think in absolute painting terms, Chambers' entry is technically better. But you just can't beat Dr Mathias for sheer inventiveness, storytelling and chitzpah! But really, very well done again to both of you. Either of these would have been a worthy championship winner  :)

I finally decided on ACTION! My reasons were the brilliance of the painting of the Venusian(?) startroopers. The glittery metallic suits were perfect 50s American scifi. The details were also spot on I loved the eye shadow on the girls. The only thing about ACTION! which gave me any doubts were the opposition, the costumes for these were more 80's Star Wars and didn't quite fit with the rest of the 50s film set. There have been a lot of close matches this season but I think this was the hardest to decide on.

I can't argue with that, which leaves me with an odd feeling of not deserving to  win the round. I'll be the first to admit I can sometimes sacrifice painting quality when I'm trying to stuff in new terrain and scenic items to get the look I want. I knew that I would have to include some close-ups since Round 10 has so much stuff in it it.

This match should have been a tie, IMO.

The only thing about ACTION! which gave me any doubts were the opposition, the costumes for these were more 80's Star Wars and didn't quite fit with the rest of the 50s film set.

Good comment. Agreed, the Smoggers, or at least the way I painted them here have a dirty 'lived in look' that is more typical of Star Wars type films. I was absolutely not going to by any new figures for the LPL though and if I wanted to do the Valkeeri (which I did  :) ) the smoggers were my only option that made any sense at all, everything else I have is 40K-ish.

How did you make the rocks in 'Action'?

The rocks are Hirst Arts cavern mold parts, arranged around styrofoam sheets and the gap filled in with drywall patch. I painted them to match the base, which is a square of  vinyl flooring. The scenic rock backdrop 'flats' are thin hardboard with basswood framing/bracing and Sculpey for the sandbags. I wanted to make sure that my flat elements were scenery that could be used in game, not just a photoshoot backdrop. I'll show them in another thread some time, I'll be using them in Pulp Alley games.

Thanks all.

Not that I dislike the first entry, but I am surprised by the winning margin of 110 votes!

A nearly 2:1 ratio is amazing given the comments, I would have expected it to be much closer.

Gratz to the winner, and all other competitors too, thanks for putting in the time and effort.

Just noticed the climactic battle was a border war...Kansas vs. Missouri! With two painters of your talent, it makes me proud to be from the middle of the USA (if Ohio can be considered that). Do you guys know each other, too, by chance? Other than on the forum, of course....

We have met, at the Recruits convention in Lees Summit. I've admired Chambers' painted miniatures many a time over the years- the games shop in Kansas City has display cases loaded with his stuff. Pretty odd that we live so close to each other, at least in USA terms. Probably about an hour and a half?

Kind of odd.
