Army Painters Thread

How about a LPL army painter league? Instead of 5 figures in a week, we do a 10-30 figure unit each month for several months. Say 4 or 5 months, then a round of equipment for your army. Elephants, machine guns, artillery, siege equipment, tanks, wagons, etc. Then the final round would be the army as a whole.

If you're buying, then sure!  ;)

With all the talk about lead mountains around here. I'm sure I'm not the only one needing to clean it out a little. This is the motivation. I've been painting French & English sailors for an 1860 China campaign, Mexican Republicans to fight my Maximillians, and more Darkest Africa stuff.

I'd be interested in doing this, without relying on the organizational effort put into the LPL as its a lot of work for the organizers. I think something like the 'Ancients Painting Club' would be awesome- we could photo the components of the army we want to focus on and submit an entry to the thread monthly. I like the idea.

that sounds a bit more reasonable to my time budget too, if we can start small

So when do we begin, and more importantly, when do we move our hijacking of this thread to its own proper thread? ::)

Workbench seems most appropriate, tho I admit that I rarely venture over there. Time for that to change!

I've got my plan in the works too... :)

That does sound motivational. As the goal would be to finish an army not win a weekly poll, perhaps a "campaign" ribbon would be appropriate?

Well Professer, what do you think? An Army Painters League? Here or in Workbench? I could be good to go as early as July. Maybe July,August,Sept,Oct large units, 10 to 30 figures each month. November comand, equipment, vehicle, vessel plus. Show the figures bare or primed in the first 5 days of the month. The finished unit by the last day of the month. A full group shot the end of Nov. or the first part of Dec. Anybody else in? Can we set up a sticky header?

Herby, I'm thinking about it since some days and I'm still unsure. It's a lovely idea and actually I would like to participate but I'm not sure if I will be able to get it through all the months. It's a really long time for a wargamer to stay on a topic. LPL is not that radical, you can change the topic every round, in this one you would have to stay on a single one. Who knows how many participants will be at the finish. Apart from that I've only noticed a few takers, not really enough for making a big deal out of it.

But I really wouldn't like to be a fun killer, so I've made it to a topic and let's see how many will be interesting in. If we've got a lot so we could talk about stickies, possibilities, rules etc.

It would be cool to the same thing as the "100 Ancients Club" in each section :) That would be a good inspiration for all interested in specific period. While I'll probably fill up just the "other adventure"-part, I assume that for exampel Kapitan Blööd, Bibbly and Steve can keep the medie...medivia...med-whatever thread running by themselves :)

100 Club is going to start on another board soon, no worries. Though this thread is about something else so let's stay on topic.

Well, if we decide to do it, I'm in! I think the challenge of staying focused on one project is the interesting part! It will be nice to see how a force can get up and running, like that article series from White Dwarf way back when..

I struggle to get figures painted every week for the last LPL but managed to enter new figures each round except for the last one…

Still painting an "army" sound interesting… I’m in too! 8)
