As with many older gamers, I created my own rules that fit our playing style.  We like fast moving, mid sized, with tactical and stratgic objectives, firefight type games with six to twenty figures to a team.  Each team has a couple of leader types with better skills and abilities, some mid quality NCO types and grunts make up the rest.  Everything is based on abilities (Intelligence, Marksmanship, Hand to Hand, Strength, Dexterity, Morale and Luck) ranging from 1-10 (10 being best) using d-10 die rolls for success.  Here are a couple AAR's showing the rules in action:

Use to play these. (Pics) But now play Pulp Alley. I have to adjust the rules some what to include an AI as I play solo.

You can't beat Pulp Alley! You don't have to keep referring to the book. The initiative part works really well and the game just moves along effortlessly. The main thing is real PULP things happen, witness the ending of one of my games, The Eye of the Buddha, Part 2

And now, Perilous Island as well!!!!

Usually played 45 Adventure. I downloaded Pulp Alley back at the beginning of the year but have yet to play them, what with one thing and another getting in the way of gaming.

Pulp Alley for me

I personally think it gives the best mix of simplicity (without being simplified or bland) , player interaction and story telling of any small skirmish rule set.

It has certainly inspired me

Usually play Where Heroes Dare, but really like Pulp Alley. I'm trying to set up a game so my local gaming buds can give it a try.

Im hoping to try Pulp Alley and its expansion soon.  Ive tried Where Heores Dare and .45 Adventure.  Both have their merits and drawbacks.  If I had to pick one Id take Astounding Tales.  Its very simple to run and easy to adapt to whatever pulp flavor you want.
