One of my oldest, favourite miniatures
« on: July 20, 2013, 05:26:59 AM »
Okay so it may not be as old as some of the other miniatures people have on here and it may not be the first miniature I collected but this mini is one that, through all my ups and downs in the miniature hobby, I haven't been able to get rid of because I like it so much. It's rather simple, which is probably part of the reason I like it. I recently stripped it to give it a repaint and believe I have done it a bit more justice now than when I was a twelve year or earlier. I also couldn't bare to damage the mini so I turned the plastic slots base upside down and carved a space for the integral base to slot into. Anyway here it is.

No nipples  lol

Great job on the flesh and a fantastic stone knife! I can see why he has been a favourite mini through the years.

That is also an old favorite of mine...long departed to better Gaming environs. Your brushwork is GREAT; & the base suits the mini perfectly. VERY WELL DONE!

I hope to see more of your Golden Oldies & newer pieces...have FUN with it all.

I have this dude too. I haven't had the guts to paint him either.

A lot of those old Grenadier barbs could audition for the Chippendales. Check out the guy hanging off the rhino-

I can see why you wouldn't want to get rid of this lad, he is still a superb mini.

Very nice paint job on hi, too!

If memory serves me correctly, which it rarely does, like their Mastodon Grenadier made the Crew Guys smaller than their normal Barbarians...still an IMPRESSIVE piece!
I never painted mine either; re, it's also an IMPRESSIVELY HEAVY sucker. I gifted it to a friend with stronger wrists than moi.

Hi beefcake,

you are absolutley right.
I have him too and he is still one of my favorite miniatures from Copplestone.

I love the whole range of Copplestones Grenadier Barbarians but this miniatures really stands out.
The dynamic pose, the skull mask, the stone carved weapon, fantastic.

Cheers

That whole range of barbarians are great. I must get me some more of them. in fact I may use some as a basis for some centaur conversions I've been thinking about as well.

Beefcake,
Great Job!  I picked up that exact figure (Barbarian Shamaan) at Little Wars ths year. I just painted him up a couple months ago, but not quite as nice as yours.
http://chicagoskirmish.blogspot.com/2013/06/night-herons-of-black-crown-part-2.html

One other neat thing about him.  As the skull covers his face, he can be a human, elf barbarian, half-orc, etc. depending on how he is painted.  I put him with my "Sidhe", (elif'ish, celtic faerie warriors from Alternative Armies) and he fits right in.

He's still avaialble from EM4, Merliton, Forlornhope and a few others.

Eilif, I like your version. Nice smooth skin tone. And the skulls and jewellery look great.

Thanks!

I have to share my lazy secret though. Except for a bit of drybrushing on the hair, fur and knife, it's all just block colors and a brush-dip with minwax polyshades Tudor!

That's interesting, since it's one of my favourite figures as well! :) For me it's purely nostalgic with the shaman being the first painted non-gw miniature I saw at the local shop, being a whopping 11 years old at the moment. I even bought the old Grenadier set with the praying knight (damn fine model still!).
Here's for Copplestone!
