 :o

That is some horde of dead fellas!
Looks great too.
 :-*

You wont need anywhere near that amount for SA, so bear that in mind when you are making stuff compatible.
I have ten zeds and two construct/big zeds and that is fine.

That does not mean that I wont eventually gat around to painting the twenty others that I have, though....

The zombies are meant for the board game Zombicide, but some will come in handy for SA and 7ombieTV too. That's only half of the horde so far... the rest are over in Post Apocalyptic. I had to get this lot finished as the next kickstarter with another 200+ zombies is arriving sometime next month... I think I've gone off painting zombies ;)

I've started to piece together some ideas for WW2 Black Dossiers, but was wondering if anyone had come up with some of the other weapon groupings used up to the 1940s? Given that SA is very Pulp in style, we can generalise a lot, I'm just not entirely sure the various groupings are currently covered for what I wanted.

I did start to write up some ideas, but I deleted them again as I thought it was a bit daft to go creating new stats when I've not actually played a game yet ;)

As part of these thoughts there were a few questions about existing weapon stats and why they are the way they are.

For example, why does a .30 Machine Gun not have any AP? These types of MG were used against aircraft so should be able to deal with a light armoured vest without any difficulties what so ever.

For LMGs they would be more powerful than the Tommy gun, but not as cumbersome as the .30. Using the .30 without the 2 Man rule comes close, but again there's the lack of AP that concerns me.

Grenades would match Dynamite fairly well, but possibly without the Dangerous rule?

AT weapons like the PIAT and Boys rifle can easily use the Elephant gun stats as they are slow to fire and do fairly well against armour, but I'm not sure about handling rocket launchers. These would seem to be something like the Elephant Gun with Blast, Power and Limited Shot (2)* ? Not sure what the BP would be for that though as it seems like a rather powerful weapon for 4BP, but pricey for 5?

*Take a guess what this rule would do ;)

SA weird WWII is a worthy cause, and one I would love to follow (not to mention play with!) perhaps in its own separate thread...  ;) :-*
Television is rather a frightening business. But I get all the relaxation I want from my collection of model soldiers. P. Cushing

I was playing with the idea of making new weapons a lot, but point system in this game doesn't allow for too much imagination as 1 point is worth a lot of. I guess it comes down to players to use what they want.

I can't tell you why there is no AP on MG, which has also surprised me, but I wouldn't be changing it. I guess it really has it all if you'd give her AP, too :D

For weapons, I was thinking perhaps a carbine (simple non-ready bolt-action rifle with shorter range perhaps? maybe D2 ROF...or just extra range for .45?)

LMG is a great idea, lets say here you'd put bren and bar LMGs. Perhaps 15" (maybe 20 as bolt-action?), 2D ROF 1D+2 dmg, ready, +2 pts?

I've made some vehicle rules, but there was no response on the forums...included was an AT rifle idea:
AT rifle: range 12" dmg D+1 special: power, ready, AP3 - 3pts
The idea was vehicle would give you 5+ save (if civilian) 5+ save and +1 armor con (if uparmored civilian), 4+ save +2 armor con (if armoured car) - so the idea behind AT rifle would be to suck at killing, but slices through armor. This way, it's not just a renamed elephant gun and it becomes kinda specialised. I've also suggested a K-round ammunition with 2AP, -5" range for BA rifle and .30 cal, that'd help in penetration, but not in damage...for a taste.

Very interesting idea, however and I'd gladly give my input on the subject - I want to do my own RTC Wolfenstein, too :P

I did toy with the idea of new weapon stats but thought that the game really benfitted from its simplicity so decided against it.

I will probably keep almost the same weapon tables for Star Wars as well, with .22 and .45 representy light and heavy Blaster pistols, BA rifles and Tommy gun stats representing various types of rifle and carbine variants etc.
I think must things will fit into a weapon 'catagory' and it makes game balance work so much better, I reckon.

Lightsabers will have to be worked on, of course.... ::)

Light sabre could be civil war sabre, or just a meat cleaver, those are cheap :P

I do agree on that, you know. Just rename it and it's a whole new weapon :P

In general I do agree that most things are fine counting as one of the existing weapons; there are, however, some categories that aren't easily fudged.

For example I don't feel that Carbines and LMGs can be squashed into any of the currently available weapon categories though. You certainly can't fit things like a rocket launcher or your lightsabre into one ;)

Fair point.
I would not alter things too much.
All weapons should only be a minor variation of those that already exist, purely for game balance reasons.
That is more important to me than making sure a weapon is totally accurate.

I'm hardly a weapons expert, so accuracy isn't what I'm after either, just a vague similarity is fine :)

Sir Horatio and Shaggy wish they had called in sick this morning!

Last night I went back and had another look at those zombies I was unhappy with last week. About 60% of them were in the passable category, so the rework wasn't quite as bad as I expected and most of it was just touching up the white and skin areas.

Enter the bottle of magic!

In the ModelZone sales recently I managed to fill in loads of gaps in my paint range for dirt cheap. One of the bottles of Vallejo that I picked up on a whim was a White Glaze  as it sounded like a potentially useful tool for smoothing out transitions. Turns out that was a great plan! Used neat it provides just enough white coverage to provide crisp white highlights without a jarring step from whatever other shade you were using. Watered down a bit it can be used to lighten up any colour (if you just want a quick highlight) and smooth out any transitions while you're doing it.

The glazes stay wet for slightly longer than normal paints too, allowing a bit more work to be done, which would (in theory) make them perfect for doing NMM. I really must try that when I get back to doing some fantasy pieces again.

Anyway... Slightly dodgy zombie shading + white glaze = much happier Paul and a complete set of walkers, runners and fatties!

As pointed out previously, I don't need this many for an SA game, but it's always useful to have a massive horde ;)

I've also started to update the first post to include links to any finished pieces of work to make life easier.

They certainly look good enough to me, mate.
Lovely!
 :-*

Thanks for the tip with the White Glaze.
I would never of thought of using that to be honest.
I just would not have figured that it would work that way.
Will check it out.
 :D

Like the index with links.
It is a great idea, but too late for me to do that....

And back to something slightly more SA related.

While clearing out the attic I came across a bucket full of old bits from Kinder eggs, McDonalds and other unknown sources. Amongst these were to creatures that are just about the right size to use in Strange Aeons and Pulp Alley... I've no idea where they came from, but I vaguely recall them coming from one of those toy vending machines at the seaside (probably Blackpool or Southport). One repaint later...

I thought about opening a new thread under Pulp... but for now they can live here, rather than scattering things to the four corners of the forum. There are SA stats for the snake already, so it fits ;)

We just got news that final contracts are incoming for our house move, so I suspect painting needs to go on hold and the evenings spent packing... so it'll probably just be ideas updates for a few weeks

Know that feeling, doing the same right now.
Good luck, mate!
