Skaven, from deep in the backlog
« on: October 07, 2013, 07:10:12 PM »
Do you ever find you have some minis hiding unpainted in your collection, just waiting for the right time to spring out under the painting lamps? A friend announced we would be doing an oldschool Warhammer Fantasy revival with our choice of skirmishers. My first thought was, I have nothing to bring! My collection is heavily Rogue Trader. But then I remembered a dozen fantasy Skaven I had primed and forgotten... in about 1990. They've been through eight relocations and never complained. Now was their moment.

For the game I had to go with a few plastics I had painted years ago. But the game was a blast and we all agreed to do it again soon. Therefore I set myself to painting the old metal. I found my prep 20 years ago wasn't the best. I had to file and sand mould lines and reprime with better paint. I now have six of them lined up to complete, and one entirely finished:

I have a second one underway and hope to finish one every week or two. My question to you Lead Adventurers is: what do you have lurking in your collection that you've always wanted to paint? It's never too late!

Most of my collection's less than two and a half years old (at least, in my hands- some are pretty old second-handers), but amongst my original collection from the 80s and early 90s lies an old Harlequin Elvis-dwarf.

I've promised him that one day he's going to get the full Vegas treatment.

Lovely painting. Recently I've been stripping down. My old minis from 20 yrs ago and repainting them, it's both fun and satisfying.
Oh, and welcome to the boards!

After seeing innumerable diseased Rat Guys, one with a healthy, glowing complexion is a shock. GREAT color choices & brushwork...VERY WELL DONE!

Now that the rats have a proper leader I'm sure there are many more intrigues afoot between the rats and the Old Skull Tribe.

And he keeps looking better and better each time I have a look at him.

And I don't know what this is you're talking about having old lead lying around.  lol  I guess the hard part for me is which do I want to paint *more.*

This one really looks great... and it even makes me want to paint old warhammer models again. And for that suprise miniatures in your lead-pile: Yes I know that moments way to well  ;)

Great looking ratboy, Gnomemad!
 :-*

And a great way to introduce yourself too.
Welcome aboard!
 :D

As for lead piles: Mine is just so damn scary at times that I have gotten all organised and boxed them all up together for different projects.
One of the advantages of having recently moved house.

My question to you Lead Adventurers is: what do you have lurking in your collection that you've always wanted to paint?

Two of my 'mini-projects' have been nagging at me for years to paint, Iron Claw Space Pirates and Asgard Dwarves.

I had used the excuse that I couldn't paint them until I had the entire range collected.
Now that I have both, I have lost that excuse.....

Therefore the Dwarves have been added to my imminent LotR project and should see some paint soon.

Hopefully...... ::)

Oh didn't read that question when I first looked at the thread. Well there is always SciFi Sophie (from some Reapercon of the past)

But I always want to wait till I can paint it better (that's actually the reason for most of my lead pile).
