Madhist list in Death in the Dark Continent rules
« on: August 15, 2013, 01:11:16 AM »
Hi.

I need help with the Madhist list in Death in the Dark Continent rules.

Jihadiyya: soldiers up to half with BL(20 points), rest with muskets(9 points).
This point is clarified by colleagues from TMP, perfect.
LINK

Ansar, Skirmishers with speras or bows (4p), or untrained with muskets(5p),
In the rules, the skirmish, can not charge into close-combat.
We can upgrade half the Ansar to elite, who can charge, but even so, it seems an odd designation.

We have doubts with this list, which is a shame. :'(
The rules seem very interesting but this list do not like.

You can explain this designation for ansar?

Thanks.

Miguel.

Hi Miguel

I'm looking at the DitDC Supplement with Lists updated by C.P. There are some general adjustments to points here and there, some subtle changes to rules and a few new optional rules like Stratagems for Native armies.

Ansar are Skirmishers as you say (EDIT: who can't charge into combat at all). However, 50% of the units ( i read this as say 2 of 4 units not half of a particular unit(s)) may be upgraded to Elite, who are able to charge formed units etc. Also, 50% of Ansar may be mounted on Camels - potential for Elite skirmishing troops on camels there*

The Nottingham crowd that i'm part of do like their DitC. I've dipped in and out of it over the last couple of years. Yes there's a couple of things in the rules that are clunky (IMHO) but i'd stick with them, they
are really rather good if you enjoy gaming Colonial Africa. I'd also look at In the Heart of Africa if you enjoy smaller skirmish games.

I really like Sword and the Flame too but reserve those games for my NWF project although i do intend to get round to trying the Sword in Africa at some point

Best,

James

* i don't know enough about the Mahdists to say whether that has historical precedent.
