1/35 scale modern zombie hunters (UD 26.05 - finally online)
« on: August 15, 2013, 01:09:28 PM »
Hi all,

does anyone use this scale?

I am thinking of branching away from 28mm to 1/35, but the number of figures (as far as I can find) are limited...

I have started with this model from "Ant Miniatures" and have found some Zombies in "Green Army Men" style (these are a bit
larger than 1/35) but seem to fit OKish.

The girl is still in WIP Modus and I have painted up 1 Zombie.

If you do not have any objections to make conversions and are handy with green stuff or such material, you will find lots of 1/35 scale miniatures in the modelshop. Most will be or oriented towards the military but you can find some civilian and other themed miniatures. Long time ago i once converted a bunch of civilian/ww2 resistance to fighters of the anarchistic faction in the Spanish Civil War. It took quite sometime to find the things i needed but it can be done.

1:32 is often noticeably larger than 1:35 stuff, though you can occasionally get away with the size difference. Your Zombies look closer to 1:32, so I figured posting a couple of links to 54mm minis can't hurt. Personally I'd be tempted to go with 54mm and use the girl as just that, easier to find suitably minis.

http://www.evolution-miniatures.com/
The two 54mm minis would work well as hunters.

http://www.zinnfiguren-martin-hille.de/index.php?language=en&cat=c3_54mm-figures.html&
Again 54mm/ 1:32 and again zombie snacks rather than zombies (categories: Dystopian future & Miscellaneous)

Preiser (link: http://www.preiserfiguren.de/showpage.php?Katalogdownload&SiteID=83) has a couple of 1:32 minis, scroll down to 'Miniaturfiguren I. Maßstab 1:32. ' (pdf file). Besides sets of civilians in various poses, there's sets containing different body parts to build your own minis (should prove quite useful for building Zs).

And finally something smelly and rotten- instant Zombies:

SmartMax: http://www.smartmaxstore.com/soldat-inconnu-en.htm

There's these, which most likely are 1:32 as well: http://boxozombies.bigcartel.com/product/box-o-zombies-set-1
(Size comparison pic with a 1:35 soldier from Dragon: http://modelgeek.kitmaker.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=SquawkBox&file=index&req=viewtopic&topic_id=203853)

And some 1:35 stuff as well. Mostly military stuff in that 'scale' available.

http://www.mk35.com
Under 1:35-> Figure-> Civilians there's a couple that should be easy to turn into zombies, though they're WWII minis.

A list with 1:35 (and larger) Civilian Figures, might come in handy:
http://www.finescalerr.com/smf/index.php?topic=1401.0

Not sure what rules you'll be using, but as GW still has the Inquisitor rules available for free, these might be worth a quick read: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?catId=cat480007a&categoryId=6700005a&section=&aId=21500020a

Hope this is of some use at least, despite the distinct lack of shambling hordes (and me suggesting a different scale).

@ Legion - Iīve got no problems with doing the conversions and using green stuff, itīs like you said, it will take a really long time.
But itīs not like I have to have them finished by tomorrow :-)

@ ink the troll - thanks for of these useful links. Will dig deeper tonight.

Thatīs the decision now, stick with 1/35 or move over to 1/32-54mm!!!!!

The plastic zombies are really cheap and quite easy to get hold of, so no problems there on shambling hordes.

Itīs the modern civiīs that are causing the headache, of course green stuff and a sharp knife will help in a lot of cases.

I got another fig in the post yesterday and turned him into a zombie (as a young 12 yr old) fits in quite well with the large zombies.

There should be at least some more civilian minis, as 1:32 is also roughly the ratio that's used for Spur 1/ gauge 1 railway stuff.

Some toy car manufacturers like Siku also have 1:32 stuff, mostly farming related-machines.  Britains used to have railway/ farming stuff for gauge 1 as well.
So zombiefied pigs and demonically possessed combine harvesters just might be an option as well (or maybe better some remotely more usefull bits like security barriers: http://www.e-shop-direct.com/eshop/siku/sikufarmer-zubehoer-1076/10-absperrgitter-10735/ ).

I started a while ago a WWW2 project in 1:35, therefor I used for my Zombie-conversions GW heads and hands.
The heads are perfectly in scale, the hands a little bit oversized  ;)
Have a look here:
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=19186.0

So, just ge you some Civilians and convert them, and stick to 1:35, I say  :)

@ Comsquare - those are nice looking german zombies you made :-) Zombies in WWII (Wierd War) are quite easy to do in 1/35.

All of my zombies have now arrived  lol

Iīve now got 42 Figs for under €35,-...and another 6 Figs (Box o Zombies from the US)...These are quite nice!!

Did a quick conversion on 2 of the figs. On one hacked his legs off, and the other added boobs and hair.

Quick update on the shambling horde.

Converted another zombie as a woman, painting is going slow due to this thing called "work"....

Because I really canīt find good enough modern civilians (á la Hasslefree/LAFM in 1:35 scale)
Iīve decided to get some figures done up in 3D (first teaser/draft) attached.

I will then get these done in 3D printing.

What do you guy/gals think?

Cheers

just a quick update on the hunters.

First 3 characters are nearly done (fine tuning) then itīs of to the 3D printers...

This is a long process, so before the first models are in my grubby little mitts will still take awhile!! this is a projekt in patience  o_o

Spotted these by the same guys who did the Box o' Zombies, October Toys.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/M-U-S-C-L-E-SET-OF-5-STYLES-ZOMBIE-OCTOBER-TOYS-DEAD-ZOMBIES-MINI-FIGURES-/281172247567?pt=US_Action_Figures&hash=item41772c040f
Couldn't find them on their site, only on eBay.

They look really great but I can't see how you would go about terrain and vehicles. To my way of thinking terrain etc would take up a lot of storage space.
Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.
