Pulp Alley AAR - Blood Sacrifice
« on: August 18, 2013, 12:07:34 AM »
Josh came over the other day and we decided to play the Blood Sacrifice scenario out of the Perilous Island campaign book. I played my Pulp Girl and Josh played with Danny and Kairi.  Here you can see the five plot points.

Princess Monukii (major plot point), who is going to be sacrificed to the Great Gonga.

Witchdoctor Shagunja (plot point), who is in charge of the sacrifices in search of great mystical powers. This is extremely perilous within 6".

A Glowing Orb (plot point) of great power. This is extremely perilous and hurls the character back 2d6" if failed

A Mangled Corpse (plot point) from the past sacrificial victim.

An Ancient Artifact from a past civilization.

Reconnoiter was rolled as a scenario event so no character could rush, run, or attack an enemy. Kairi walked towards the glowing orb and waited till next turn to pick it up. A pulse of energy is projected from the orb and pushes her back.

Lexin shoots at Naga from the top of a cliff but does not injure the terrier.

Mak climbs into the pit to search for the artifact, stowing it in his pocket. (+1 Experience)

Pulp Girl moves toward Shagunja, dodging the spears of her bodyguards. This goes on for several turns.

Mike goes towards the princess, watching out for natives.

Mak shoots at Axel from across the table, knocking him down.

Kairi tries again for the orb and manages to obtain it through a test of might. (+1 Backup)

The Great Gonga arrives, drawn by the sacrificial drums.

Danny scavenges the corpse, finding a valuable artifact. (+1 Gear)

Lexin shoots down Mike.

Naga rushes Lilith but neither is injured.

Mak shoots down Lexin, apparently not noticing the looming terror behind him.

The Great Gonga swipes at Mak and he shoots back, injuring the dinosaur. Mak breaks away while he can.

Next turn, Mak runs to stand next to the hostage.

The Great Gonga moves to attack Bowler, knocking him down. Naga chews through the captives ropes, freeing her. (+1 Contact)

Naga is shot down by Danny.

Lexin shoots down Mak, causing him to drop his artifact.

Pulp Girl finally gets through Shagunja’s guards, scaring her off. (+1 Tip)

The Great Gonga rushes Pulp Girl. She flees from the scene with her life.

This scene played out really nicely. Josh had the Backup and Gear at the end of the scenario and I had the Tip.

Awesome:-* Who controls The Great Gonga ? Is it random or does he come in on a certain game turn? Also who decides who he attacks ?  :-*

can't tell why it reminds me of that movie, with the Doug McClure role split between the girls  ;)

Another great AAR.
Thanks for posting it.

I have 3 questions, all about stuff in the following pic.

1-Who is the maker of the Zulu guards protecting the witchdoctor?

2-Great looking huts, are there any WIP pics? If so I must have missed them.

3-The Stone idol with the skulls on it is from Hyrda minis. Did y'all get any of the swell Valkeeri or Galacteers?

Thanks again.

Prof, this scenario came straight out of the Perilous Island book - page 32-33. If Gonga is the 'method of sacrifice', then you start rolling for him to show up at the start of each turn - after turn #2. Once he appears, he always activates last and always moves up to 12" towards/attacks the closest character. As such, his actions are determined by the scenario - rather than being controlled by a player. There's nothing subtle about Gonga. He moves and attacks and attacks and attacks...   ;D

Indeed! I know exactly what you mean.  lol lol

Answers --
1 - Copplestone Castings
2 - There is... or was. I'll see if I can track it down. The roofs were a pain to make, so I don't know that I'd ever do these again. Basically, they are made out of long paintbrush bristles glued to a cone.
3 - Yup, I ordered one Valkeeri because I wanted to see how well she scaled next to my mostly Copplestone and Artizan collection. I think they're great looking miniatures, but just a bit taller than most of my stuff.

This scenario plays really well. Lots of room for all kinds of fun stuff.

Mila's Pulp Girl really got tied up for a long time trying to drive Shagunja away, but Josh played a big part in slowing her down by hitting her with a couple Distractions (Fortune cards) and some good perils.

In the meantime, Pulp Girl's colleagues did a good job freeing the princess and finding the artifact. Towards the end of turn #5 it looked like Mila was going to walk away with a major victory - holding three Plot Points, including the Major Plot Point. But then Josh got some lucky shots in and made her guys cough up the princess and artifact.

It ended up being a great story and great fun!  :D

THANKS for the comments!

I just bought Perilous Island last night on the strength of this AAR (OK, I was going to buy it anyway, but this sped the process up!). Loved the dinosaur and the write up is ace! Keep 'em coming! :)

They are, indeed. Also listed as 30 mm as opposed to 28.

I think I may have to purchase Pulp Alley. I remember liking the playtest version a lot when reading it, but I have had too much real life stuff to deal with the last couple of years, so I was away from the hobby. Now I am returning with a vengeance, though, mainly focussing on Pulp and Zombies (which may, incidentally, very well be combined).

GONGA, GONGA, GONGA!!

Always thrilled to see a big monster enter the table. Great AAR as always, fun to see Perilous Island in play. Looks like it had just the feel we were going for.

Poor little pooch...who could shoot that little guy?
