update! JTT Corn Field
« on: August 24, 2013, 11:38:35 PM »
I have been working on a corn field. The corn stalks are from JTT available at: https://www.michtoy.com/item-JTT-95512%20-Corn_Stalks.html

I simply drilled out some strips of mdf, glued the stalks in place with superglue an hey presto. Al I need to do is finish the other strips and do the basing on them

You stole my thunder!!!!  I picked up fifteen packs of these at a discount ($5.00 US. a pack) because Hobby Lobby decided to stop carrying them.  I cannot recommend them enough.  Quick and easy corn fields.  I did this base with just under two packs.  Love the idea that he is hiding on his 120mm base.

Glad to see someone else doing them.

Huh! I've been watching packs of these on ebay, toying with the ideas of making cornfields for a while now. Nice to see they do look the part!

Looks like a fantastic product!

Just ordered 480 of these for a long-dormant Retro Alien Invasion/It Came From Beyond the Still Project (I need to find the still and the old barn I have somewhere, to get them assembled and painted!).

I think I'm going to Mount them on strips of base, 3 rows on each, with enough spacing to allow for miniatures to run between the rows....
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

Just to clarify, do you folks think the O scale stalks (2" high) would work better or the HO scale stalks (1" high). I'm thinking the O is best (and it looks like most of the pipctures in this thread are using O scalea?).

Ideally S scale (presumably around 1.5") would be even better, but I don't think those are made.

For 28mm figs, O scale is the way to go. I have a bunch of these too, and got them thru HL clearance or 40% coupons. Haven't done anything with them yet - trying to decide on basing.

I've received about half my order, and I've been giving the basing a lot of thought... I THINK I've settled for single row strips of base - I just have to figure out what material can both be drilled and be trusted not to Warp when painted....  o_o

I use thick strips of mdf. about 3 to 4mm

Might work. I have to get a 'drilling tower', so I can avoid the stalks pointing in weird directions.
