Eek! Just under the wire!

His love for you is ticking clock,

#197 - Berserker

Made for my SAGA warband, the figure is a mix of parts from Wargames Factory: body is from their ancient Germans, weapons and head from their Vikings. I have three more in the batch, but I decided to push forward with this one alone, to ensure he made it into the club.

I think maybe I should have gone one more layer lighter for a more "Northern" skin tone, but if he's running around in the summer sun with his shirt off, he should have a little more color than usual anyway, right?  :)

- H8

He looks great mate!  I just started playing with a new way to do lighter skin tones.  Instead of browns to shade, I went with more purples with some red.  Vallejo Violet Red and Black Red instead of darker browns.  I also made a mix of red and purple inks, 50/50, so I can quickly shade troops the same way.  I used it on all of these vikings, but I think it shows up best on my first one on page 38 or so.

Cheers!

No 198

Sir Ralph Percy of Leconfield

The command stand from a 30 figure retinue, that I hope has just crept under the wire for inclusion into the 200. Please excuse fingers by the way. Have just finished them this minute so hot off the desk which has been sadly dormant for so long. Will post the whole on another thread.

Who would have thought! :'(

As I awoke this morning and found the count was 199 I began to sweat!!!... :o could I get the camera out fast enough, had I made a mistake playing SAGA too long yesterday and slept in this morning? Will I miss slot #200! I had painted like a fiend for the last few weeks and had 15 new figures for the challenge, but not good enough...I had run out of time...quick Photoshop, quick hit reply, Arrrgghhhh!!!! what mini out of 15 to select...arrhhgg I cant decide...wait "hey you in the back... yes you! ...Banner Man of the Flemish Mercenaries...step forward! Is your paint dry yet? why no sir! you finished me 20 hours ago, clear coated and based me, then dam had me march off too battle with those Vikings!"

Our last figure in this most excellent fashion show of men from the "Dark Ages" is concluding with "Rollo" the Flemish flag Bearer. Rollo is clad in a yellow red themed outfit as are his 8 other members of the group. I wanted to do this to show that they were indeed different and also figured that this was historically justified by groups wanting to be able in the heat of battle identify one another easily. So I used the same color group, yellow, black, red, white, throughout but mixed it up as to how it was applied on each figure with a few random colors thrown in. This works well I think to show some continuity as well as randomness as uniforms transition from the Hodge Podge of the "Dark Ages" to the more uniform looks in the "Middle" ages.  The spear and banner as with all my minis are hand made steel and copper sheet with a hand painted flag.

This has been inspiring the most fun Ive had in any thread yet! I hope we can post more shots of the figures as groups or even start another "challenge"

No. 200 Flemish Mercenary in Norman service Yes I'm adding to this as you read and re posting...lol

And since the challenge is over(?) here is the group shot of the "Flemish" enjoy.... again thanks to all for your wonderful looking entries and most of all the inspiration to us all to get "painting" Bill W

Superb, what a great way to cap off this particular legion of honour.
