Posting photos/ changing avatars
« on: May 14, 2008, 03:33:24 PM »
Sorry to bother you all, since the information may well be already present somewhere on the forum but how do I go about changing the picture of my avatar, should I decide that I want to? I have got used to the one that I use on other Forums and I am having problems recognising myself.......

Please bear in mind that my computer skills are politely described as "limited" so using words of one syllable would be helpful.

On a similar note I have recently painted a few Pulp figures and pirates. Although they are not competition winners I thought that I might show them for some feedback. Is there a way to post the pictures,? More relevantly is there a way if one doesn't have a website yet ( and I've been saying that I must get around to doing one for at least two years..... )?

To change your avatar click on Profile at the top of the page, and then on Forum Profile Information (on the left in the Modify Profile section).

From there you can either pick one of the many that come with the forum (Personalized Picture), or upload your own from your computer's hard drive (I will upload my own picture). Then click on Change Profile at the bottom of the page.

To post pics you need to get yourself an account with a picture-hosting site such as Photobucket. This is free, and allows you host pics that can then be displayed here using the Insert Image button, or getting the correct link directly from the photobucket controls.

Photobucket address (there are others, it's just the one I use):
http://photobucket.com/

Once you have uploaded your image to Photobucket you then can click on the part that says "Image Code", which will copy the correct link you can then paste into your post.

The text you need to paste will look something like this:

Code: [Select]

And will appear on the forum as this:

Or you could become a Supporting Adventurer and then use the Lead Adventure gallery function.

Sorry if the explanation is a bit complicated and not at all clear. I did my best. Give it a try, and if it doesn't work just ask for help. Can't do any harm.

Many thanks.

That's a very clear and concise explanation. Even I can understand it!

Whether I can actually follow it remains to be seen......... ;)

The Plynkester is taking his new responsibilities very seriously...  ;)

Glad to see he's still winding people up occasionally though  lol

Having trouble changing my avatar to a custom one. I resized the picture I wanted to below 80x80 pixels, JPEG format. But when I pick it and click "change profile" the avatar does not appear. Tried various pictures and can't seem to get this to work?  ???

Edit - read it was a bug in the forum software and that I should submit my profile picture to one of the moderators instead.

Dear Plynkes,
It is always to have the instructions to post pictures.
In the past I have posted some few photos in the forum and everything was OK.
But recently I have the following problem with photobucket. When I upload the photo the size was changed and became a thumbnail. When I use the edit function of photobucket it is resized but looses clarity and became a blurr
When I send it to the forum it remains very very small and cannot be seen.
How can I change it?

PS: How can I post images in a private message on this forum?

I really don't know, I'm afraid. I used Photobucket to post two pictures today and they came out fine. Sorry I can't be more help there, but I just don't know what the problem is.  ???

Posting images in private messages is done with the exact same method as posting them on the forums.

Hey chaps (or chapettes),
having the same probelm as Anatoli here. Chose an image that was 80x80, and even tried one that was less, but I still have a blank space where my pic should be unless I use an archived one - unfortunately the joke my name implies is just not complete without a pic of dear old Julius...

EDIT: Dreadfully sorry, should have read the post about the problem first! Do ignore me for now, but don't make that the general rule ;)

\\\"Oh dear,\\\" said God, \\\"I hadn\\\'t thought of that,\\\" and promptly vanished in a puff of logic.
