I don't think anyone is arguing the merits of the game nowdays for modern, adult gamers.  What we're acknowledging is it introduced a lot of 30-somethings (now) to simple dungeon crawling when we were kids.  If a new Hero Quest comes out, and I can play it in a few years with my two nephews and perhaps my niece...that'd be fantastic.  Board games used to be quite fantastic (Volcano Island!)...they've lost a lot of charm lately.

Played Heroquest last week with some mates (the US version)...and honestly: found it quite boring. Let's say the experience wasn't the same as 20 years ago :D. The gameplay is just too basic, especially compared to what we're used to nowadays. I hope I'll be playing it with my son in several years, but until then it stays in the cupboard :)

That's what I'm planning on doing. My son turns five tomorrow. Must go and check the recommended age on the box and then ignore it and let him play anyway. lol

I want it for my kids. Son is 5 and daughter is 7. They both should be able to play the game.

LGW

Do you speak about German version?
Even the Italian traslation is quite grim...
But the material content and images seen so far make me hopeful ....
especially the furniture in resin.

I can not wait to see starting crowd funding for this beautiful project.

With that much resin we can expect to be dishing out a fair bit of $$$ on this....

its not going to be cheap... will also be curious as to what the stretch goals will be like..

Is the list of monsters the same as what was in the Original box? eg are there any missing monsters or heroes?

if there is any missing then I can bet they will be part of the Stretch goals..

LGW

I'm expecting stretch goals to be addons like the expansion pack, return of the witch lord, against the ogre horde etc. maybe they may do spin cast restic for the miniatures?

z0mg so many typos...

http://www.heroquestclassic.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Mentor´s-first-letter2.jpg

Yeah, that was an interesting approach for an introduction but almost painful in its execution. I consider the original game's story and writing to be one of its strong points, so the writing here is disappointing. GameZone needs to step up its game; bonus props if they can simulate Mentor's writing style from the original.

The actual thematic content of the "letter" is clever. It ties the real-life 25 year gap between games to the passage of time in the game world. That could just be a fun flavor text introduction, but I'm hoping it means the new game will not only re-tell the original story, but also continue it. Of course, if that's the case, GameZone may need to recheck its history (or at least, fill in the blanks).

While "dreadful enemy" could refer to the Witch Lord, Zargon (Morcar in some versions) is the more likely candidate since he was the main Big Bad in the game. However, HeroQuest never got around to a final confrontation with Zargon, and he was never defeated. I suppose we can make allowances for creative license though, especially since Mentor probably doesn't want to demoralize his new heroes! =P

Is the list of monsters the same...

The list does not include the 3 Fimirs, which are copyright Games Workshop. It looks like these have been replaced with 3 Drrakks. In addition, the list has a Chaos Witch instead of Warlock. Otherwise, the list contains all of the figures (both heroes and monsters) from the original base game with a few additions: female heroes, ogre, black orc, petrified gargoyle, wraith, 2 extra zombies, and the viscosity.

The list does not include the figures needed for the original expansions. Kellar's Keep and Return of the Witch Lord had additional copies of the monsters from the original game. Against the Ogre Horde, Wizards of Morcar, and the two "quest packs" added new figures to the game, and most of those are not in the GameZone list. We could see those as add-ons, but time will tell.

I do hope they stick to proper resin...I'm almost doubtful.

I think we're looking at $90-120 boxed game here.

Cover WIP.

I hope the miniatures will not have the slightly cartoonish feeling.
