Ronin!
« on: September 20, 2013, 01:04:18 PM »
Here are my first two buntai for Osprey Publishing's 'Ronin' game - figures by North Star.  Not my best ever, but then I am out of practice, and Samurai aren't the easiest things to paint.  The next two buntai should be better, because now I think I know what I'm doing!

White primer followed by block painting everything, then the 'dip' (Army Painter 'Strong tone', painted on), a bit of drybrushing with white spirit to lift it off the highlights, then Dull Cote, and that's about it!  The bits I enjoyed most were painting the flowers and stuff on the clothing, and sticking the tufts on at the end of the job!

Cheers,
Phil

They look cracking, quite hard to do the patterns, I have painted up 6 perrys to get juices flowing and have over done the pattern on a couple. These are cracking 8)

They look good! Just more inspiration to provoke me to purchase a couple of factions of those beautiful figures!

Phew!!!  Finished the Bushi and the Sohei.  Originally, I was going to make transfers for the sashimono to make the bushi from the Ii Clan, but I ran out of 'steam', and went for a very simple scheme.  The armour is still based on that used by the Ii though.  So they're 'fictional' - but none the worse for that I think.

Now I'm going to go and sit on the seat in the back garden and read about the Wild West!

Cheers,
Phil

Thanks lads!  Sorry to be slow replying - real life has been far too hectic.

Despite my having said some rude things about quality control, once these figures are cleaned up, primed and painted, they really are the dog's danglies. Now I just need to sort myself out some 'Japanese' terrain so they look 'at home'.

Oh, I will! I first saw your stuff at the Royal Armouries a couple of years ago, and regretted not having an excuse to buy some!  Now, once I decide what I want to do, terrain-wise, and grub together enough money, I shall be investing.
