The Thing
« on: October 10, 2013, 06:07:16 AM »
I've been looking at doing a 28mm version of The Thing for some time. The main problem has been getting the right figures. I finally got to thinking that I'd have to sculpt them myself until I saw the Scavenge, Skirmish, Survive figures by MiniatureMOJO on these very pages. So I ordered some and painted them up with a few very minor conversions (an empty fist and a female head for a male).

All in all these guys look just right including a very passable Kurt Russel. A few firearms, a few hand weapons and a few unarmed. This gives room for characters to scavenge and find useful weapons and other items (like flame throwers!). I have a Copplestone Sno Cat on the way and I also found a 1:48 scale toy helicopter in a local toy store.

Anyway, for now here are the mini-Mojo figures all ready to go on their (doomed) Antarctic adventure.

Jackson (the cook) - "Mac" (the chopper pilot) - Jorgensen (Norwegian Scientist)

Parnaby (US scientist) - Olafssen - Frydenlund (two more Norwegians)

Roberts - Barnes - Adams (US Scientists)
Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.

Very nice!  I, too, am wondering what you will use for the THING.  Do you plan to build the station?

Looks like a great start.
I am also using some of the Scavange etc. minis for my the thing project. Not many humans painted yet though, mostly just Things and scenery. Must start on the base soon... argh too many projects.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm planning on sculpting several "Things". When it appears it will be a random choice with each Thing having different stats. An yes, I will be building an ice station. I'll be making several buildings and using the Quonset huts made for Dust Tactics as corridors and small stand alone huts. I've got all the pieces all I need to do is start putting it all together.

I'll be using 7TV as the game system.

I love 'paranoia' type games, where the players are never quite sure who or where the bad guy is!

The models look great, just right for the theme.
'Sir John ejaculated explosively, sitting up in his chair.' ... 'The Black Gang'.

Your figs look great, I especially love the eyes, spot on for the movie with that "is he really xyz or ...the thing!"

I am sure there was a thread a few years ago where someone put together the thing may give you some ideas

There is a nother small studio that has a not-McCready with sunglasses and his trademark hat, I can't remember it's name but I posted a thread about them here on the forums a while ago, and they also have non-John McClane and not-Leon from The Professional, among others.

That would be Rogue miniatures mentioned above.

Is Rogue Miniatures still trading? Their website has been down for about a week now.
