minibits http://www.minibits.net/Trees-c13/Deciduous-Trees-sc19/ aren't bad and are quite resonably priced.

I have been very happy with trees for model railways.

Noch is one of the biggest manufacturers.  The Noch Classic trees are plastic trunk armatures with latex foam foliage.  They look very good and are quite durable.

Woodland Scenics is an American company doing similar products.

I second jimbibbly with the treetech option - we also use them at work - they can make to order, any type of known tree in any scale so unless your looking for something 'other-worldly' give them a ring and disscuss your needs. They are a small run family bussiness and really friendly and helpful (I have no family connection with them  ;) )

I am looking for trees like the battle field in a box line (the conifers) that is no longer produced. Something that looks ok but is rugged enough to stand up to a lot of game play.

You are looking for the old conifers that have wire branches covered in flock?  I have not seen them manufactured for some time.  You could always make them.  Here are some links.

Both methods seem fiddly but once you get going on them you can produce quite a few quickly.  On the price end they are by far cheaper than the purchased trees. Probably was not the rout you were looking for but I hope it helps.

You should try Ebay. There are dozens of Chinese sellers that make the type of tree you want at very affordable prices.
This is just one example. Silly cheap and free shipping! Most of the stuff from China is free shipping.

We recently got some Chinese ones for 15mm gaming, 20 trees post-free for just over 2.
Look surprisingly good, and came quite quickly.
