54mm Habet Hoc Habet- *Gladiatrices added 31 DEC 2013*
« on: October 13, 2013, 09:35:50 PM »
I've been toying with doing some gladiators for quite some time. I've got the Habet Hoc Habet rules by Flagship as well as quite a few Blacktree gladiators ( which I have had under-coated for YEARS!!).
I saw some really nice 54mm metal minis by Pegaso which re-kindled my interest and so I've decided to build a Ludus in 54mm.
I'm still waiting for the metal minis to be delivered but have got hold of some Pegasus 1/32 plastic minis to get me started.

My Thraex ( what is the plural of Thraex..?????)

Murmillo, Retiarius and Scissor

Gladiatrix, Dimachaerus and Secutor

2 "Dwarf" gladiators and another Gladiatrix

A  Hoplomachus converted from a Thraex

I'm pretty pleased with the Pegasus minis and I am looking forward to painting them.
I also picked up a Playmobil arena which looks pretty good for 54mm.

Keep you posted as I go.
Cheers

And I am looking forward to see them painted. 54mm would be my my first choice for gladiators - if space and funds would allow. ::)

PS: Thraeces. ;)

Excellent, good to see someone else attempting a larger scale. ;)

I can heartily recommend Furt's Blood on the Sand game, it has certainly fired my imagination of al things Gladiatorial and is by far the best game I have found on the subject. :)

Looking forward to seeing these with some paint on them. ;D

These are really nice sculpts and pretty spot on historically.

Looking forward to seeing these painted up.  :)

Of the main armaturae, I see only a provocator missing, and he could be easily enough converted.

There is a provocator in the set but he is part of a mini "diorama" with another mini. He's holding the other gladiator's head and is about to dispatch him with a pugio. I might convert him but i will have to totally re-work his left arm and make a scutum. I'll have a crack at that this week.

Beautiful project...I did check into these at first, though I do all 28mm stuff, and it made it a bit easier to travel for me.  I can't wait to see how this develops.  The set did sound like a crackin' bargain.

Just finished the first two of my plastic 54mm minis.
I started with a "pairing" so I could start gaming them straight away.

Thraex

Murmillo

I will try to get my Retiarius and Secutor painted this weekend.

Thanks for the comments, I'm really enjoying painting these!

I've also started to throw together some stat cards. It's a little "busy" but I intend printing them quite large.
