Hi, everyone!

Has anyone of you tried Star Mogul from Alpha Forge? If so: Is it good/recomendable/worth investing in?

I've been on the lookout for a non-GW SF-skirmish game for a while, and I like the idea of a small spacecraft-based enterprise trying to make a living like that...
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

I don't know Star Mogul, but if you are looking for a good SF-skirmish game try Infinity:

http://www.infinitythegame.com

The rulebook is avaliable for download in the site so you can have a look at the game mechanics.

I prefer the Rezolution rules to the Infinity ones, RZ being a little more stringent and less prone to abuse, but RZ has its quirks, too... it plays better than Inf., IMHO.

I've played Infinity a few times, and I found most of the system very refreshing: Response Actions, Electronic Warfarfe and the terrain heavy table appeal to me.

I gave RZ a quick glance, but most of the minis are not my cup of coffee at all.

From my experience I can recommend  http://www.wargamesunlimited.com/nolimits/index.html , which is free and has quite good build-your-own-troops rules.

I've got the Infinity rules, and one of my gaming pals is quite eager on that, so mebbe... I'm just more into the 'dark industrial (Alien/Aliens)' look and feel....

You could try the Warzone rules. Some of the best game mechanics ever and you can get the old rule book for less than $5 from ebay.

One I like very much for modern and sci-fi combat is Assault Squad. It's free in every sense: http://www.assaultsquad.741.com/

Of course there are the omnipresent KillZone, Combat Zone, Future Wars... there are plenty of sci-fi skirmish rules. You have just to know what you want the rules allow you to do with them.

I never heard of Star Mogul. It would be nice if somebody could share his experience. Think this could be another part of my collection of rulesets.
"I'd like to send this letter to the Prussian consulate in Siam by aeromail. Am I too late for the 4:30 autogyro?"
"Uh, I better look in the manual... This book must be out of date. I don't see "Prussia", "Siam" or "autogyro"...

Star Mogul is a good set of rules with a built in campaign mechanic and some innovative touches.

I've been dabbling......

Don't talk to me about Warzone, I'm a veteran  8) ! Actually, I was responsible for introducing it on the Danish market, while I was working as manager of a games shop in Svendborg Funen.

It rocks! And I'm so sorry that Excelsior went down...

I'm an Imperial and Dark Legion man, btw. ;-)

Now that I'm at it:

Urban Mammoth have some nice sci-fi figs for Urban War and the upcoming Metropolis (it's a conversion of Void1.1)

I don't game much (read, at all) but I am familar with the rules set.  I like the Star Mogul rules quite a bit...Like Matakishi said, some neat innovations, and a very cool overall campaign feel.

Plus, I love the minis (which is the reason I read ANY rulebook)
