'Authentic' VSF female military uniforms
« on: October 15, 2013, 12:40:03 PM »
Sort of... Designed during the late Victorian period, at least.
Robida Robida was a science fiction writer and illustrator who prophesied a decline of gender roles in the 20th C.:

For 'active women' just like for the uniforms of the male crews of the most 'futuristic' war contraptions (submarines, flying patrol boats) he took inspiration of the most 'modern' sportswear of the late Victorian times, the bicycle riding dress:

Give her a pistol instead of an umbrella, a kepi (or pickelhaube or whatever national military headgear) and you get an 'authentic' image of a Victorian Science Fiction / Steampunk female soldier - manufacturers of wargaming miniatures should take note!

In reality female fighters of the Victorian area were less glamorous:

but what would be the point of Science Fiction if one could not add a touch of fancy?
