German halftracks in the SCW?
« on: May 25, 2008, 03:16:52 PM »
Did the nationalists or the Condor Legion use SdKfz halftracks in Spain, or weren't they made yet?

And if so, who produces 1:58 models?

thanks,
Ferencz

Probably only unarmoured tractors for the 88mm flak, although I do not have the sources to prove it. Certainly no APCs of either the 250 or 251 models, since those just started to roll off the assembly lines in 1938/39; in contrast to the Ju 87 "Stuka" dive bomber, of which IIRC three initial series planes were sent to Spain, APCs needed to be available in numbers to be used effectively; as an aside, even in 1940, numbers of the 251 APC were painfully low.

Now, this is a bit of a downturn, I know; there´s a line of excellent 1/56th half-tracks available from Bolt Action Miniatures, but only armoured versions and the late ones, too. I own a 1/48th scale Bandai SdKfz 8 (gun tractor), but the beast is positively huge and cannot, stress CANNOT be used alongside 1/56th scale tanks - since I´m known for my rather lenient approach to vehicle and figure scales, that says something.

They only used the Sdkfz7 to tow the 88mm, and the experimental gun battery, no other half-tracks were used.
Condor Legion troops really only operated in an advisory capacity on the ground, they trained Spanish troops to use the Pz1 and the guns they supplied.
Their main support was from the combat aerial support they provided.

BAM should produce this one at some point:

I thought the Sdkfz7 only was put in production in 1938...
But then, my tiny Gondor Legion force is very Pulp, with mechas and all that, in search of Inquisition artifacts, so a Sdkfz7 and an Opel Blitz would fit right in with the Mercedes Silberpfeil.
It has to, because it's too nice.

AFAIK they used their 8/8 to support the Francists

Hi Chris,

I'm in their Yahoo group and all things are moving along for them. You would have seen a thread I wrote on a few companies releasing miniatures and vehicles some weeks back.

Loads of goodies to be released in the next few weeks. 8)
Best wishes,
Helen

Great to hear! I may be misremembering things, but I seem to recall talking to Paul of BAM at the last Crisis and he told me there was something of a dry spell for most of the AGN models BAM carry - could of course be that they had to replace moulds, so I´m sorry if I caused confusion.

Area23 where is the photo of the Prime Mover you post from?  That looks like a great model!  Has or is someone releasing that model in 1:56 scale?

Bolt Action have that master already, the main moulds are made, all thats needed is to fill the rear basket with stowage, and the model is ready to go.
It will in 1/56th scale, I can confirm this, as I made the model in the picture.

I recall reading that there was at least one AT company deployed to Spain as part of Condor with SDKFZ 10's and PAK 37's.
