Old West Adobe houses
« on: May 28, 2008, 08:24:47 AM »
Here is another Adobe building to compliment my recent church model. Its a large house with rear courtyard.
Its made from foamcore with Polyfilla render, Balsa wood doors and windows. Now to complete the base texture and start painting it.

That's one heck of a Hacienda!!  :oI've never tried polyfilla on foamcore is there any risk of warping or cracking as it drys?

It's really looking good Malamute.  That flooring really adds to the overall feel as well.

Not that I have experienced so far. I don't load too much Polyfilla. Its just enough to skim the surface. I then dip the palette knife in water and smooth over the render. This helps to take some of the roughness off. When its dry it gets a rub down with sandpaper.

So far no cracks and no warping. I use 5mm Foamcore, so its pretty thick and rigid to start with. Its also braced inside, so I am sure that helps to keep it rigid. If you look at the church model I made. There are some long expanses of quite high walls and they show no sign of warping. So far so good. :)

Looks like another great adobe building Malamute!  So when are you going to start building the Alamo? :)

That actually is not just a joke... with your new miniature range I am kind of expecting you to build the Alamo eventually! :)

I have the Hudson and Allen one, so will use the chapel from that, but have been considering making the other buildings, but I think thats a way off yet.

The model is now painted, so will post some finished pics later this week. :)
