Tarzan and family impresses me in all sorts of ways.  Their flesh is great; the ape and elephant look like they could walk off the page; and while I guess having animal team-members for Tarzan's family makes complete sense, this still strikes me as very original entry.

The first pairing I see in this round, and it's already a tough decision....  8)

The fifth impossible decision, this is the toughest round so far! Who does that arquebusier?

You know, this is my most meticulously painted entry of the whole sodding competition - 17 shades of turquoise, carefully layered, hand-mixed in the eye of a needle... And I come up against... an elephant and a chimp!

Who can compete against an elephant and a chimp? Curse you, Bugsda  lol

You have caught me sir, like a Treen in a disabled spaceship.  ;)

Voting either way will sting a bit.

Another tough decision.

I must confess that the originality in Tarzan and family is first class.

I casted a die to find out which one to vote

Another hard to decide pairing: very high painting standard on the Artillerist, but the Tarzan family looks so as an integrated whole and is very well painted on top, they get my vote this time.

The foreground minis are from Game Zone which is a Spanish Games Workshop tribute band.  ;)

Their Imperial range includes lots of slightly exaggerated / fantastical types, but quite a few will pass muster as historical figures for my ever growing Elizabethan swashbuckling collection...

As you can see, the figures have bundles of character, and some are rather lovely. I thought the gunner in particular was a sculpt of real genius...

Obviously without quite the appeal of a beautifully painted elephant though  ;)

Apologies Captain Blood. Stunning work on those artillerists, but that Lion clinched it for me. I swear the scantily-clad Mrs. Tarzan had nothing to do with it! lol

Sorry Captain, I can see how using half naked women and cute animals can look like gamesmanship but it wasn't deliberate, honest :D

I agree about the Lion (although the entire family is frankly brilliant). Bugs' can we get a color recipe for the Lion?

Bugsda - you go on, my son  ;)
Personally, I thought you were a little short-changed in the voting stakes in one or two of your earlier encounters this season, so you are well deserving of a romping home run IMHO.

I have that Jane figure too, I've added her to my cave tribe - her panga is now a flint knife - and she's a/w painting. I shall tackle her with even more care when I get round to her now...  lol

Yeah! She's definately got a touch of the Raquel Welch's, excellent as a cavegirl.

I've got a spare so I may have to nick that Idea Cap'n.  8)

Heldrak, the lion was done in either Plaka Yellow Ochre or Inscribe Caramel over a plaka brown undercoat, with added white for successive layers.
