[INDIEGOGO] Machinas: Death Racing is here
« on: January 17, 2014, 08:19:58 AM »
The Indiegogo for "Machinas: Death Races in the Wasteland" begins this Sunday at noon (PST.)
Tell your friends! And if you don't, the Oppenheimer still loves you  :)

You can get an introduction to the game here: http://2hourblog.blogspot.com/2013/12/machinas-introduction.html
And I'll try to answer questions about the game as best I can here.

Any teasers on pricing for the pledges?

Does Indiegogo charge at the end like Kickstarter?

Indiegogo charges at the beginning, which makes it hard to change your pledge level. Definitely requires more maintenance than Kickstarter.

I think $35 is the intro level for the PDF of the rules and the deck of cards.
$50 for the above plus a printed rulebook (and eligible for stretch goals; the goal is low, so good chance of hitting some stretch goals which include new cards with new weapons/signatures etc.) Also some scratch-built sets of cars available.

But all that is Ed's department; he's the seller/market. I just wrote the rules :)

And yes, Indiegogo charges right away- but if the goal isn't met (for a fixed funding campaign) then your money is refunded. Indiegogo also allows for some projects to be "flex funded," in which case all the money is kept even if the goal isn't met, BUT the project owner must still deliver. Unfortunately, I don't know which kind of campaign this is -- it's not listed on the preview page Ed showed me (though, the type of funding is usually listed when a campaign is underway.)

can you paypal or does it have to be a CC.

Indiegogo offers both options, though, the method can be limited to one or the other by the campaign's owner (which is Ed.)

If not, we can work with Ed, I'll add to my pledge and get Ed to ship you your copy.

It's not clear why you need more than 1 deck, or whether you need one deck per player. what's the scoop on that ?

The deck has four cars and enough weapons, defensive measures, features etc to outfit those cars. If you have two decks, you can race up to 8 players. Granted, the cars are the same (you could use a marker to add car numbers maybe,) but the added deck would provide extra copies of certain weapons in case everybody wanted a "spiked ram" for example. Stretch goals include a second  and third deck of cards which would each have four new cars and new weapons.

You don't absolutely need the cards to play, but they makes things a lot easier (with the cards, there is no written record-keeping needed.)

cool I'm off to buy it.

That was easy.

Well done you are the first person to ever get my money for one of those crowd funded things.

Thanks, Scurv!

I made a Board Game Geek page for the game (with Ed's blessing).

I have submitted some pictures Ed sent me which are still waiting on approval.

Thanks, Jake. I also submitted some pics of my cars, and I invite others to do the same once they start playing the game.
