Spacecraft of various types - who makes them?
« on: February 01, 2014, 05:27:44 PM »
So, I was having a discussion about getting back into Full Thrust with some buddies, and we realized we have not played  these in so long, that all we have available is Battlefleet Gothic, Babylon 5, Silent Death, and a few Star Wars collectibles.  None of us are particularly good at scratchbuilding or converting at that scale - though I am trying it - but we just can't seem to find a list of who is doing what for itty bitty spacecraft right now.

We found the new X-Wing game, but at 10-20 US each, that is out of the range we want to spend, and I was surprised to find that LAF did not in fact have a list of manufacturers here in Future Wars.

Anyone?

The first I think of GZG, especially as its them with Full Thrust.
There's also firestorm armada, probably plenty of others.

EM-4 has the old Silent Death fighter moulds now; you can buy 12 fighters for GBP 2.55 from them:

Huh.  I did not realize GZG still existed - hadn't looked them up in years.

So, I looked up Firestorm Armada - those are some sweet ships, if a little expensive.  I know that there are others out there - that's why I asked these questions.

We don't need any more Silent Death ships - they are a touch too fighter styled for what we want to do, and we have two starter boxes worth.  I found the spacecraft on Brigade Models site as well, but there has to be more choices that will scale with BFG and Full Thrust.

Hobby Link Japan has loads of space ships from various cartoons/movies...cheap as chips and in a ton of various scales.

I just typed in 1/2400 and a slew of cheap Bandai kits showed up.  I can't vouch for the scale or size of most of these, but some time spent around that site might yield some very cheap and worthwhile results.  $2.30 per ship is hard to beat.  I'd guess many of the kits are probably older 1980's/1990's kits.

Beautiful! To the Internet!

Brilliant idea on the model kits - I never thought to check those.

Just a warning...looks like some of them seem to be up to 7-8" (22cm) so the model kits might be well out of the normal size range you're looking for.  I'd imagine some are smaller...who knows.

The 'really cheap' are more like three-four inches; 'box scale', i.e. whatever fits in the small box ;) . There are figs by other manufacturers that are smaller, but a lot more expensive, as well.

Spaceship gaming has it's own forum on The Miniatures Page, so a bit more focused as to manufacturers.

Starship Combat News, run by Dean, a longtime FT conversant, is another place to pick up conversations and manufactures lists.

I give props to X-Wing for two things, a) was a gaming gift my son-in-law REALLY appreciated, and b) brought (back?) vacchead discussion to LAF.  lol

Monday Night Gamers have the old Superior (IIRC) range.

Iron Wind Metals has a large selection - at least so it seems at the HMGS-E cons.

Sinewgrab,

Let us know what kind of scale you settle on...this is actually a pretty sleek little kit (I found a couple) for a generic shuttle/barge.

http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN979644/Sci

I can measure it, but the shuttle is around 4" long (would take a little kit-bashing to remove landing gear etc.) Simple multi-part kit, new production so very crisp.

PS: Obviously, ignore the silly carvan...the shuttle is cool (also you'll notice it has an optional booster/weapon pack).
