I haven't tried it myself but I've seen cobbles made from textured wallpaper!

About a year ago I spent an hour or so searching through the wallpaper range at my local DIY store and there were several "possibles", most of them are very cheap and you'd only need one roll.

Are you doing it on figure bases or terrain?

If its figure bases then Green Stuff spread over the base and shaped with a sculpting tool. It s for terrain boards then textured wall paper as previously mentioned. :)

Thanks - it's primarily for table (road/marketplace).

I'll see, what I can find...

Either use the structured wallpaper mentioned, or use a styrofoam base. On this base, use a roughly rectangular-crossected piece of metal tube to press in the single cobblestones. A fair amount of work, I´ll admit, but IMHO easier than with plaster or putty. Afterwards, basecoat with a dark paint/fine sand mix very thinly so that the recesses are not filled up.

Hi,

I did mine with Styrodur...I think in the GW terrain compendium its called Polystirol.
Here is a picture !

The blue stuff on the right side.

Than I took a pencil switched the tele on and started scratching copperstones into the Styrodur.

Here you can see the result !

because I make all my tables out of this Material you can easily scratch in market places ,  roads, etc....

I've found a photo of some textured wallpaper as cobblestones:

You can find very nice, in-scale and cheap sheets of cobblestone paving at Antenocitie's workshop

http://www.barrule.com/Workshop/scratch%20builders%20paradise/sheet%20materials.html

This is one of the best suppliers of all kinds of really useful, hard to find and professional looking materials, tools and kits for all terrain and scratchbuilding purposes.

But be warned: if you ever start browsing those pages, you will for sure find more of the "God wants it!" things you could imagine ... :D

Have fun!

I like those - I think they look more like slates than cobblestones, though (not that there's anything wrong with that).

What do you mean 'switched the tele on'? It may be my English falling short, but I do not know the meaning of that...

Chris is right,

because scratching cobblestones into the gameboard takes a while and is boring I watch Tele while doing it. Preferable some boring football game like England / Germany 5 to 1 LOL
