Stats for Hoffman
« on: February 07, 2014, 02:20:20 AM »
No, not recently deceased Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman. Instead, I'm wondering about stats for C. Hoffman, the Malifaux mini.

He's one of my favorite miniatures, with his multi-armed exoskeleton. But I can't decide how to represent that in IHMN. Has anyone come up with a solution already?

There are other multi-limbed figures that this would affect as well, figures that would justifiably have extra attacks in melee combat: Doc Taranto from Freebooters, and the Slate Ridge Mauler, also Malifaux, off the top of my head.

Should the figure just have an increased Fighting Value, or should extra weapons in the additional limbs add to the weapon bonus? Or is there an even better way that's staring me in the face that I can't see?

Thanks, my IHMN brethren (and sistren!) for your help.

I had not considered doing that...

I think I'll give it some thought. I think the big issue is how powers would translate over...

Well, I'm not trying to translate his Malifaux stats or powers even (although that is certainly a great idea). I just want to represent fairly the effect having multiple limbs would have on melee.

Given that a figure can split its fighting value among multiple targets, that's probably the way to go -- increasing the fighting value. (3.4.2 Multiple Attacks)

But I wonder if I'm overlooking something. I get rule myopia sometimes.

Keep it simple. The rules say you can only split attacks by splitting down your FV, so a figure with +3 FV would, at best be able to only make 3 attacks at +1 + weapon bonus.

For Hoffman, that's probably about right. Based solely on the look of his mini, he's rather a slight, bookish man. That exoskeleton should add attacks, but other than that, he doesn't look like much of a fighter. (Again, that's just based on his look, not on any of his fluff or rules from Malifaux.)
