Quar Water Boys-"The Dwfr Heddlu"
« on: June 17, 2008, 10:00:33 AM »
Finally finished after sitting on my paint table for about a month :o

and now the obligatory fluff which is a must for all Quar :D

"The Dwfr Heddlu". The Yakkers first realised water was a commodity to be guarded closley when the third company set off on its first patrol in the desert of Kryst, This was to be a routine show of strength which meant they had to march on foot carrying full pack and equipment. As they set off the sun beat down on their helmets and sweat ran down the noses of the Quar as they marched into the haze of the Noonday sun.

The Company was due to return after completing their 3 day march to outlying hamlets and the Qwiddr water hole. However on the second day they were approaching the watering hole when they were fired upon by rebels from the dunes of the slat flats near the watering hole. Pinned down they managed to retreat into the dunes. It was then that disaster struck as a sand storm rose up about them which lasted for 7 hours by the time the storm had worn itself out of the 48 Quar only 17 were still together, no trace of the others could be found.

Worse still was to come, they were lost and with only the water they were carrying (2 full canteens) thirst was taking hold.

The remnants set off lead by Is-Caerton Twede, following the sun as a guide to the base camp. The retreat was an ignominious one, with Rhyflers being picked off by rebels used to the harsh terrain and making use of their local knowledge at every turn.

3 weeks after they left the company was sighted by the Gate guard. Of those who had set off only 3 Quar returned, this was to the shame of the Catrawd Is Caerton Twede and 2 Rhyflers.

Dafyd Aurach had no compassion for the excuses and pleading clicks from their parched throats begging for water from IS Caerton, Twede threw all three into the blockhouse, promising a fitting reward for their failure.

The reward; to become the Water Police or Dwfr Heddlu. They were issued with a mobile water unit and given the un-enviable task of managing the water supply for the Catrawd, filling canteens, digging for water in the desert and guarding watering holes and Oasis wherever they are deployed.

Rather than baulk at this Twede rose to the challenge, his two Rhyflers also having shared the experience of being lost in the desert. Now Twede has made the position of Dwfr Heddlu one to be feared, they are the Military police for the regiment measuring water to the mililitre and dishing out harsh punishments to those Quar who they see squandering water.

More than this they have developed their own uniforms of grey "prison cloth" a fitting tribute orginally meant to shame them, now a uniform embelished with a Red beret as a sign of the blood shed by their fallen comrades.

Cool job on both the figures and the truck and a great little story to boot.(even if they are crusaders)

Swell work! The car is a tad bit modern, methinks, but then again, I originally wanted to use my Quar as airborne cavalry in a vietnamesque setting. Now I´ve settled for the Interwar flair, though.
