Battle of the Hospital Dinner Table Pulp Alley AAR...kind of...
« on: February 11, 2014, 12:57:42 PM »
My 9yr old daughter has been VERY ill for almost a year. This has included many stays in hospital whilst the Docs try to find out what is wrong with her. Her biggest regret is she is missing out on having a game with me, big sister and mother every weekend. So to fix this I have been taking a few figures into the hospital and we have been playing some Pulp Alley games.
The great thing about PA is the small space and limited amount of terrain that is required.

Our first game was "The Battle For Mount Unedible Substance". The objective was to land on "Dinner Tray Island" and to climb to the top of the Mountain and take samples for testing to A) Identify the substance that the mound was made of
    B) Asertain if it was indeed edible.

Well this was a race filled with much laughter, falling off of cliffs, drowing in the "Gravy River", shootouts and the odd punch up.

Not only did it help Mads pass another boring day in hospital it entertained some of the other sick kids as well.

Oh and the samples sent to the lab came back as "Unidentifyable" and "Containing DNA not of this planet"

Sorry to hear about your daughter, hopefully they will figure out something soon. The not knowing what is wrong is probably the worst part of it all. My son was sent to the hospital at he age of 2 months and it took a while for him to to get the diagnosis, but after that at least you know how to treat the problem. I can also relate to the long hospital stays, my son spent the better part of his first two years in the hospital an has regular visits due to complications. I have built many a terrain piece in the hospital, and played some excellent zombie games with the boy as well.

I hope that you and your daughter hang in there, and something gets worked out soon. It's good that she has gotten to do some fun things, the hospital can be dreadfully boring.

A small game like that sound like just the thing to brighten some spirits! I hope that your doctors figure out what is going on and kick it in its teeth. Good luck to you and your family.

I think it's a FANTASTIC idea to play some miniatures games to distract your daughter at the hospital, and I'm sure PULP ALLEY was a great rules choice.

Best wishes to you and your family.

I know you're too old to play with toy soldiers. So give them to me... NOW!

Many thanks for the kind wishes guys. The latest from the docs is...we have no idea, so she just has to live with constant pain. Latest from me......NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!!

As to the games....it just seemed the right thing to do. I have spent long periods in hospital during my time in the service so I know how boring and depressing that can be, so there was no way on this earth that I was going to let my little one go through that. Funny thing was, we ended up gettting some of the nurses and other kids in the ward playing as well :D

Glad to see the game was playable in such a constrained space.

Get well soon Mads.
