It's been awhile since I've posted anything - I don't like to show in-progress photos of sculpts because so often it seems that delays and life and stuff get in the way.

... actually, I really really do like to show them off, I get super excited about it, but I've found that it's often imprudent because of delays and life and stuff getting in the way!

  ;)

However, I do have some more sculpts coming - and here's a preview for one of them.

The Okros (singular - plural is "Okroi") are a number of different species of warm-blooded reptiles that inhabit the niches that are, in the outside world, normally taken by hoofed mammals. The most common forms are anatomically very similar to antelope and deer, but there are larger and more robust species that are similar to horses and elk/moose, as well as stocky belligerent types that are similar to the Cape Buffalo of Africa.

The most common species, the Blue Okros, is about the size of a large deer, able to look a man in the eye, with the tip of the crest horn occasionally reaching as high as six feet on large females. They travel in small family herds and are the main prey animal of several of the large predators of Azor. Their high birth rate, quick growth, and keen senses serve them well in surviving the various dangers of the Lost World.

They have proven to be too skittish to be truly domesticated, but they are sometimes tamed and used as beasts of burden, and some of the Telestai and Kasireu (landowners with walled estated) are known to keep semi-domesticated herds for food and hunting.

I've got two sculpts coming in the pipeline, along with packs that can be put on their backs or not as you like.  One pack is generic rammage, the other is a couple of pithos pots for carrying wine or grain or what have you.

Original & color art by Kate Turner, b&w art by Brianna Reagan (the human guard is by Lucas Elliot).

I'll be posting pics of the greens soon, probably on the FB page first.

I was very excited to receive this package in the mail today:

The second snake priestess, also sculpted by Patrick Keith.

I should have her cast and available before Christmastime.

Apparently I need to start a snake cult. I was not aware of this until now.  ;)

Any plans to do a couple bases of single or groups of snakes to go along with the critters wrapped around the priestesses?

I plan to do a boxed set called "Just Another Snake Cult..."

There will be Guardian Snakes in the set, as well as a giant snake statue.

Well, maybe not "Giant", but, big enough to sit on a 40mm round base.  Maybe a throne.

And some warrior women, too.  The warrior women are coming next!  Not anytime soon - my releases are generally funded by the previous one - but I have a Kickstarter in the works, and I hope to ramp up my output significantly after Christmas.

Of course, I've said that sort of thing before... something always seems to get in the way ($1000+ to fix the car, leaky sink ruining the walls in the downstairs bathroom, the price of heating fuel skyrocketing, etc etc etc...).

Things tend to progress at their own pace.

Even operating at such a small scale as I operate at, I've realized why miniatures companies are so reluctant to commit to release dates!

This brings me close to the end of my current batch of greens - only a couple left!

When I first ran across pictures of the Armadillosuchus Arrudai, I knew it would be a perfect addition to Azor.  Jason Wiebe sculpted this one, and he'll be converting a couple of variant poses after I have this batch mastered.

These terrestrial (perhaps even burrowing!) armored crocs are raised from the egg to be temple guards in the city Zor-Al, and unless you have been anointed with the properly scented oils they will attack viciously, as they are kept hungry!

Here's a picture next to some other figures for scale reference - from left to right, a Forge of Ice sentry, a Games Workshop Lord of the Rings elf, a Crocodile Games Satyr, and another Forge of Ice figure, a Saleesa bug-eyed lizardman leader.

That creatures would be perfect for our Pulp Alley - Perilous Island campaign.  ;)

They were such weird animals:

Armadile?

Crocadillo?

Armagator?

Allidillo?

Does seem to be some unholy inter-special miscegenation at work with this beast...

I usually see them called "Crocodillo", and the scientific name is "Armadillosuchus Arrudai".

I'm just calling them armored crocodiles in Azor, but I think they'll most commonly be referred to as "OH DEAR GOD WHAT IS THAT AAAAAAAAAAAAARH!!!--"
