John Dennett sculpted him - he did all the best figures for Grenadier back in the 1980's.  I feel privileged that this snakeman is the first gaming figure that he's done in a long time.  He is a MASTER of the craft.

These days, he mostly sculpts monsters for garage kits - check out his website!

OK, Dave, since you're so enthusiastic, I'll post a preview of the nearly-finished figure.  It's basically done except for the spear.

He'll be released this summer with the Jungle Queen and armored crocodile from earlier, along with a certain terrain piece.

Then, after that, an entire tribe...

Love the scales and overall proportions. Definitely in for a tribe...keep us posted!

Phenomenally good!  I thought it looked great smooth, but the detailing is next level!

Bring on the whole tribe!

Could there be demand enough for TWO tribes, one slick n'smooth, t'other scaly n'tough?

Just speculatin' here, but they are each brilliant, in different ways.

I just discovered this thread and your figures - what's the best way to go about ordering some? I think a lot of them would go over very well in my Tekumel-based games... :)

Thank you for the reply! I'll have a look, and get right back to you - I missed out on your huts and tents, and my tribal hordes have never forgiven me...:)

The Histath arrived in the mail yesterday!  I am one happy camper - holding a John Dennett original sculpt in my hand is a pretty awesome feeling!

I've got the Histath next to one of John's old Grenadier sculpts (a Lizard King) for size reference... and also because I wanted to compare his 20-year-old work to his current stuff.  I love how his style still shows through, but you can tell that he's had a few years of practice between then and now.   :-*

It's hard to say what my favorite part of making minaitures is - I love designing creatures and settings, I love seeing designs from my imagination become reality, I love seeing how people paint them in ways that I never imagined, I love seeing my world and setting slowly become populated, I love writing background and story, but MAN it is hard to beat the feeling of holding an original sculpt that was made by someone whose work I've been a fan of since childhood.

I'm waiting on a few more pieces from a couple of other sculptors, but I expect I'll have castings of this guy for sale in June-July.

Very Spiffy!!

The lineage, and the experience, shows, nicely.

June-Julu ish ya say?

Will this release be in addition to the Kickstarter?

The Histath is a great sculpt indeed and fits nicely with the old Grenadier Lizard King.

I may have missed this but are there other Histath sculpts planned or just this one?

Yep, I have a separate set of releases planned that'll be coming out at about the same time as the KS is wrapping up - the production molds just might all get made at the same time.

Jason Wiebe is currently working on some variant poses of the armored crocodile, I'll have the snakeman, the Jungle Queen, by Mark Evans, two small terrain pieces by Patrick Keith, and possibly two more creatures from Jason Monkman and Des Hanley (depending on how quickly they're finished) AND one large terrain piece (which will almost certainly be done in resin).  I'll probably sculpt a couple of little bits and bobs, too.  I'm going to have a relatively large (for me!) number of releases coming out this summer!

I'll be casting the Histath, three Armored Crocodile variants, and the Jungle Queen at the same time for sure.  The others might all be in a later batch, depending on when they're finished.

So... yes!  June-July-ish :)

That is great news! The Histathi (???) look so primal without any other adornments except that big *#$@ off spear. Very old school.  :)

Are you planning some action oriented poses with the rest of the tribe? Any other weaponry other than spears? And what about a shaman or leader type? Although the lizard King would suffice nicely.

Really very impressed with all this stuff.

And it speaks volumes for the talent of the sculptor when all you have "extra" is a single weapon...
