A Song of Ice and Fire (A Game of Thrones Blog) (Update: Serry and Wights)

This is my first post here, I joined LAF as it seemed to have a really great community feeling. I thought I'd start a thread here to track my progress for my A Song of Ice and Fire hobby project. I loved the rich lore of the books and really wanted to wargame it. I will upload more pictures of what I have as I go, and I have about 20 models nearly finished as it stands, and I'll be posting pictures of these up over time, alongside new models that I bang out. Anyway, here goes with some Tully and Stark soldiers:

The knights might be used as named characters such as Brynden Tully and Greatjon Umber, though he doesn't quite seem tall enough.
I've also done a Lysene sellsword, who will have a wide range of uses under Sallador Saan and Stannis, Vargo Hoat and the Lannisters or Danaerys over in Essos.

I've several more done, ranging from Unsullied to the Nights Watch (I'm just gonna end up covering everything lightly ) and that'll be appearing some time soon. Any criticism and advice would be a great help, I'm 16 and not yet the greatest of painters.

ASoIaF seems to be exceedingly popular around these parts nowadays (enough to get me checking out the books, at least...), so you shall find yourself in good company.

Nice to see another face doing ASOIAF! Check some other threads here by those who also try to create the armies Westeros, you might get inspired, (at least, I got  )

Thanks, I plan on having quite a bit of stuff from across the narrow sea, talking of that, here are my stab at some Unsullied, I pretty much just used these models as they seemed to fit best from what I had. I have tried to paint the clothing as worn leather, and the shields and spear shafts are black just because I thought it would look good. Anyway here they are:

Has anyone done any Dothraki or any of the other peoples from Essos, like the free cities or the Ghiscari? I'm gonna have a go at some, but I would like to see other's takes on them. CC welcome as always.

Nice take on the unsullied, which figures did you use for them?

For 16 I think your painting is coming along just fine.  There are many experienced painters here who can give you a wealth of information.  Perhaps if you tell us what you would like to see improved with your painting, we can give you some pointers.

Keep up the good work!  I have not painted any figures for aSoIaF at this point, but am reading my way through the books.

Thanks, they're Warlord Games Macedonian Phalangites, but they've all been converted just with their arms being reposed to slightly more interesting poses. I have a fair few of these guys, so Danaerys will have a nice strong skirmish army.

Never could quite picture what they were like. I always had an image of the versions of Dothraki in the show (watched the first season before reading the books) only maybe a bit more mongol-ish.

I also watched the first season before reading and have the same problem, neither the huns or mongols are quite right in my mind. Just watched season 4's pilot, I may need to do a bit of changing to my dornish conversions

Next up are my first few men of the Nights Watch. I've got one on a horse converted from a Conquest Games Norman with arms and a head from the Perry WoTR box, his neck is a bit rough as i had to sculpt everything between the shoulder and the neck due to different head/body attachment systems. Anyway, im quite happy with him, here he is:

I've also used a few GW Lotr rangers as Nights Watch rangers, and think that they look the part:

I've got a few more rangers primed, and I've assembled some Perrys as garrison's for one of the castles, including a Nights Watch knight, and a man to operate a scorpion that I've stolen from some Romans. I will be away for a week from tomorrow though, I think I will be able to put up a few pictures up. but no hobby happening, but when I come back I am planning on doing a big batch of basing, it should finish all these models of nicely.

Well I wasn't able to post while away, but now I'm back.
Here are 3 Clegane Men at Arms, the central man is Raff the Sweetling,  who will lead my Cleganes until I find a good way to make Gregor.

I also have a test model for an Ironborn painted up, he's a slightly converted Conquest Norman, and I have also assembled and painted a Drowned Man for the Ironborn.
