Yes, they are some sort of immature seed pod. No idea what species. I collected a bunch from a bush and made a rubber mold so I could cast them in dental plaster. My intention was to use them as some sort of edible spore delicacy found in the underhive of Necromunda. I found some seed pods the other day that look like a larger version of these (again, species unknown :) ) so I'll be doing something with them too I'm sure.

The crystals are just plastic icicle Christmas tree ornaments from the dollar store, glue them to a base and paint it :)
a mixture of quick parts, sarcastic humour, reserve, and caprice.

Fantastic work on the Valkeeri! I have been postponing working on mine due to all that skin. You make it look natural.

Nice work, Thargor. What size rod did you use on the sabers? Did hasslefree provide them?

Excellent! I must keep an eye out for stuff like that!

I just ordrered War Rocket and a small selection of ships yesterday, as I intend to combine spaceships with skirmish forces for some Pulp/Retro Sci-fi Adventure gaming. Your Valkeeris spurred me on to get the project moving!  ;D

I don't know if Thargor used those, but Hasslefree provides rods in a variety of colours if you buy the full 'Mystic Family' set.

You know you hate it when both entries are great. Loved both of these.

@ syrinx0 - The light sabers are from Hasslefree, cut down to appropriate length and glued on in place of the sword blades.  They do various colours.

@ Dr M - thanks.  This competition inspires me each year.

Dr

Excellent palette and great diorama setting.

Airbrushing the ship gives it that sought-after retro feel too.

Wonderful, thoughtful work.

Keep it going sir

Wow.  Stunning stuff Dr M.  Well and truly outclassed on this one.

For what it's worth, I liked your entry too, and like others have said, it was enough to get me interested in those figures. You should ask Kev for a commission. ;)

Dr Mathias, your technique is excellent, but I have to say it's the color choice that drew me in as well. Of course, it would look ridiculous almost anywhere else, but it's absolutely perfect for the subject matter here - Well Done to you on that!  lol

You made me curious about what was out there... I think maybe I need to clear my image cache now.

Ah, the sacrifices we make... for SCIENCE!  lol
