Bigger Games
« on: April 10, 2014, 07:22:07 AM »
At the risk of spreading heresy, how big could a game of IHMN get ?

Are there any suggestions for large games where the ‘ordinary’ troops are moved as units ?

Characters with Leadership (or a cost of 25+ points) and any conveyances would still be moved individually, but the ordinary troops could maybe be deployed and moved as sections of 5 or 10 men.

As a start I can see that a separate 'Big Battle' set of amendments would be needed to cover things like units firing at Heroes, and how they might be affected by Mystical powers.  ;D

I have not seen this but it might be a lot of fun to create it. Though I think tough troops and heros would die very quick in the face of a ten man rifle barrage. I think the mobbing and combining fire rules would be a good place to start looking if you do go ahead with larger battles.

I've been working on this a little bit lately. Test game after Salute :)
Wasn't going to mention anything yet but there are a few things that need changing but it's not as bad as you think. The scaling tends to balance itself a little with regards to skills etc, for example in a normal game, giving all your troops Marksman might mean your opponent has a couple of men more than you. In a larger game it might mean they have 10-20 more figures than you... That's a very different prospect.

Characters are just as survivable as a 10 man volley doesn't affect their Pluck any more than a 3 man volley. However they do have a little less individual impact which in a larger game is only right and proper.
So many projects..... so little time.......

I begin to regret my decision not to go to Salute, but it’s fixed now.  :(

'Fraid not  :(

I limit myself to 60/90 min travel time, so the normal routine is Cavalier, Call To Arms, Campaign, Valhalla, Colours, SELWG and Warfare, but 2 of those have been scrubbed this year. Partizan is a wee bit too far.

Salute isn't on the list as the price to be paid for going a-Viking over the Easter weekend in Dublin with about 500 others from all over Europe - She who must be obeyed has her limits  ;)

I am jealous you have all of those. We Canadians don't have shows like that or at least not that I can find in Alberta. The only one I ever got to was "Go tape measure" well I was working in Japan and most of the people I gamed with did not have a common language with me (my Japanese was terrible).
