Happy to comply:

2000pts, Elves vs Orcs/Goblins (not LotR per se, but I post it here because of its relevance to the previous game)

I have not gotten a game in yet.  I will have to keep your observations in mind regarding the effectiveness of missile fire and calculating target numbers.

I have not gotten a game in yet.  I will have to keep your observations in mind regarding the effectiveness of missile fire and calculating target numbers.

Bows are lethal, every bit as effective as close combat, and given that normal bows have a range of 20" (Elven Bows 22"), and no range modifiers, you can often get 3-4 volleys in before an enemy infantry unit can reach you (and if you place your archers behind some CC-infantry (within 3") you can fire just as well 'over' your friends and the enemy will have to annihilate or break the unit in front to get to the archers.

The TN thing is not a major downer, most of the modifiers are quickly learned by heart - it just feels a bit clunky compared to some other 'modern' rules I have tried. Maybe too granular, but it's probably a matter of taste; I like fast action and army management, rather than unit management, so anything that slows down handling of the single unit kind of nags me.

Lots of great stuff in this thread to inspire with. Brilliant terrain and table layout and the Cave Troll in particular stands out. I also quite like the Isengard Uruk-hai.

Thanks, I have been a fan of Tolkien's works since I first read LotR maybe 40 years ago (what got me into fantasy, basically), and collecting and painting the GW LotR stuff has been on and off for the last 20 years, so I'm glad you like it!

I may have my doubts about Oathmark being the new black of fantasy gaming, but at least it has me mustering my forces and painting some more minis  lol

Yet another game of Oathmark set in Middle-Earth (played almost a week ago, but I have been busy in the garden and a lot at work).

This kinda stalled two years ago, partly because of covid-restictions, partly due to some health issues I've been dealing with (nothing fatal, but very annoying and inhibiting).

I shall soon be posting new stuff, though, as I have two character models in the pain(t) queue, and I want to resume the Frodo's Quest project as I have a new prospect whom I want to introduce to MESBG (he likes LotR a lot, and we have been playing Sellswords & Spellslingers, Oathmark, and, of lately, Warlords of Erehwon).

As soon as Aragorn is ready, we shall have him squaring off against a handful of Moria Goblins, while I shall move forward with painting more Nazgūl and some Dśnedain and Halflings.

That's some nice looking stonework. I always find stone a bit trickier than I expect to.

That's some nice looking stonework. I always find stone a bit trickier than I expect to.

I almost destroy a drybrush brush when doing this sort of thing. It's a mix of drybrush, stipling, and smudging with black primer, very dark first layer that does not cover completely (some overbrushing, stipling and drybrushing to create an uneven colour), finishing off with drybrtushing, stipling and smudging with the light grey.

I recently painted a lot of headstones which gave me some practice in painting stone, but the process is a little bit tedious, especially with larger pieces.
