« on: July 15, 2008, 07:27:25 PM »
Hello all,
I'm looking for imput on my interwar project in 20mm U.S.M.C. in China and interventions in South America 1928-1940's ,primarily would they have painted their ford pickups in olive drab ,grey or kept them in civilian colors .I will be using several brands of vehicles including the Mack trucks from RPM models, and a couple of model railroad brands to get the era 's right, additionally would a ford sedan be out of the question for my touring commanding officer.
thanks for any help in this.
Derek

Not sure about the Marines, but the Navy usually had grey vehicles and the Army olive. As for Ford sedans, go for it, just remember to put a star on the door and the appropriate "rank" flags on the fenders. Look forward to some pictures.

The US intervened in South America in the 20's and 30's?

Olive drab for the vehicles. If you are painting up an M1917 tank to go with your marines then I've seen a lovely pic somewhere ( Maybe the Vanguard on the FT-17) that has the globe and anchor motif painted in glorious full colour on the front of it. Eyecatching.

The US intervened in South America in the 20's and 30's?

When the survivors talked about fighting Incan mummies and mountain spirits the US expedition to Peru was quietly swept under the carpet. Of course as no trace of the expedition to find Dr Sinister in the Amazon was ever found it was easier to list that force as "lost at sea while enroute to maneuvers".

I suspect though dsmith is referring to the Central American vacations the marines took.
