Having 30 castings of the 15mm Japanese schoolgirls, I figured I'd try to see how hard it would be to convert them. The pewter used by 15mm.co.uk is quite sturdy, but it didn't take long to file details off as needed.

The first project was to dress some of them as mikos. What is a miko? It roughly translates to "shrine maiden" or "female shaman", and they are usually thought to have spiritual powers. Of course, they wear the same basic clothes as unarmoured samurai, but with a simple red and white scheme.

I don't honestly think it's the greatest conversion ever, as some of the putty was hardening on one of the hakamas (trousers), but they'll still be useful later down the line when I sculpt some actual mikos. Unlike these ones, they won't have modern hairstyles or shoes.

And of course, the minis are available here:

It'll have to wait until I've finished with the current Gear Krieg comic episodes. :(

I did paint up some Clan Wars female Shuenja (or however that's spelt) as mikos a decade ago, but I forget where I stored the pictures, if I ever did take some in the first place.

There are a few there that have potential, might end up picking one there...someone needs to make a more specific one though. There's at least enough for fantasy, and if nothing else a scenario character for historicals.

15mm miko conversions (Oct 4 - more Sengoku Fantasy sculpts)

I've been back at it, sculpting new minis for the Sengoku Fantasy range. While some sculpts are done or almost there, others are still very much works in progress:

Some better pictures:
First off, Tsukumogami: Chochinobake, Kasa-Obake, Tuchinoko (flat snake) & Rokurokubi

RPG characters: Miko with heisoku, Miko casting, Martial Artist (made him too tall), Buddhist monk with hat and staff praying, Buddhist monk with staff attacking

Bottoms: Snake bottom 1 (coiled), Human legs/hakama 1, Spider bottom (small), Human legs/hakama 2, Snake bottom 2

Tops: Female torso, armoured, armed with naginata; Female torso, half-armoured, armed with katana; Monster head 1; Male torso, armoured, armed with katana; Male torso, half-armoured, armed with yari

Combination examples, plus sashimono

WIP, mainly focusing on giant spider body and centipede body. The blob will be a bull-like monster head.

I've got word that they're working on the molding for the second wave. Given the explosion of ranges that they do (the Ion Age, Loud Ninja Games, Flintlocke, etc.), I guess it's not surprising.

So here are the sculpts of the third wave:
Goblin command: goblin commander with katana, goblin flag bearer, goblin shaman

Goblin cavalry: katanas and bows

Goblin mounts: "goblin mounts" and kutsutsura

Two more Tsukumogami: Boroboroton, Eritategoromo, and a hosta yokai (since there needs to be more evil plant spirits)

Wood cutter, kama-itachi (twin and single versions)

Tanuki: tanuki commander with katana, old tanuki merchant, tanuki shaman

I decided to go with baggy pants, with tail and testicles tucked in. That way they can double as nezumi for those that want so. The overall look is thinner than the modern conception of the tanuki, from some 18th century prints, as well as the actual animal.

Another set of tops: Topless female demon top, unarmoured skeleton with bow, unarmoured skeleton with katana, armoured skeleton with yari

The range now has been organized into HOTT (Hordes of The Things) armies, and the third phase (with goblin command and cavalry) should be out soon!

Finished off the latest wave of sculpts for the 15mm Japanese Sengoku-era fantasy range at http://15mm.co.uk

Nurikabe (wall yokai that also have dog qualities)

Nue (similar to a manticore) and a Baku, a yokai that eats nightmares (with separate elephant and lion head)

Tanuki melee group: with kusari-gama, a shape-shifted/kintama club, and a katana

3 Tanuki with bows

Tsurube Otoshi (a giant monk's head), Wanyudo (a flaming wheel with the head of a monk), and another centipede body (with an upper torso)

3 Inugami (dog yokai) and pup

3 Nekomata (twin-tailed cat yokai) and kitten

Finished off the latest wave of sculpts for the 15mm Japanese Sengoku-era fantasy range at http://15mm.co.uk a few days ago. A few power failures and other events later…

The sculpts:
3 Gaki – While they are meant to be hungry ghosts, the visual depiction in ukyi-o paintings is that of classic flesh eating zombie.

3 Kitsune and kit

Peddler with Soba shop (4 parts) – I've always had this fascination with ramen shops as depicted in movies and anime. Before there were shops, there were the traveling soba stands. Way cooler looking than hotdog stands.

2 Komuso monks – They could be flute=playing monks, or ninja…
2 Demon painters – This isn't that widespread, but the idea is that the painter can paint weapons or spells out on a scroll, or paint the demon to trap it. Perfect RPG-material

Civilized Henge daimyo with katana
Barbaric Henge daimyo with katana
Oni princess

2 Armoured legs
Head sprue – kabuto helmets with sode shoulder guards

Armoured Samurai and ashigaru tops: samurai with naginata, katana, ashigaru with yari, bow
Demon monk top
Demonic samurai with katana top
Policeman with sasumata
Skeleton warrior monk with yari
