Multibases for gaming

The more I game the more the appearence of the game becomes the focus.  I love the look of multiple based figures!  It is more diffcult from a gaming perspective but they look marvelous.  The only project that I done on multiple bases was my WECW army (now sold  ) but I am thinking of this approach for my next WAB project and possibly some WWI skirmish (platoon to comapany size)

Tom - The multibases by David look really good!  But there is also a downside for multibases, especially for Pulp games where you might want to break down your unit into individuals.

A compromise might be to use the multibases from Eslo?

If you usually base your figures on pennies have a butchers at the S&S multi bases they are in 6, 4 and 3s to a base, the best of both worlds

Nice to see some more feedback here.

I don't consider singlefigures placed on multibases at the moment but just as a matter of taste.
Multibases for skimishgames of about 40+ figures are actually less problematic than for classic periods (like DBM) because basesize doesn't matter in skirmishes. The only downside is you can't use these specific figures for as singles but you can always paint a couple more and base them as singles. You could even use these as stand in figure with the multibased ones.

Plusses for multibases (I have especially BOB in mind at the moment
-They look better.
-They are easier to handle on the tabletop.
-You don't need to touch the figures so much so it's good for the paint.
-They have a better stand on difficult ground or on hills because of the bigger base.
-The are easier to transfort because it's fewer bases.

Minusses
-You can't use the figures as singles (but then you rarely need 40 riflemen as singles).
-You can't place them on very dense terrain (I don't see this as a problem though and from my personal experience I'm unlikely to place 20 single figure into some dense wooden terrain anyways)

Hi Tom,

In this Darkest Africa game we had to squeeze many of our units into rough or difficult terrain elements.  In this case, it was useful for us to have single based figures
