Fishmen!
« on: December 01, 2006, 02:59:03 PM »
I hope you guys will be interested in a project that I have been working on for the last couple of months:
Loosely based on Deep Ones, these are some Orcs disguised as "Fishmen" I made for a Warhammer campaign I'm runing:

The fish-parts are mainly greenstuff with a few plastic components (such as the teeth, fins and tails).

In the weekly campaign newsletter I kept dropping in hints and rumours about a strange race of Fishmen that were terrorising the coastal fishing towns. The players assumed it was a joke (a Red Herring? - sorry) because of the constant in-jokes about the Fishman army as the next race GW are making for Warhammer.

They were quite surprised when these fellas turned up!

That is GREAT!  :o

I love the step by step shots you put up of the process. Thanks for sharing. What's funny (to me) is that just this morning I started a hybrid human/Deep One project.

They took ages to make but the reaction they got when I first put the on the table made it worth while! I didn't tell anyone in the group what Iwas up to!

How did you paint the fish? I love the way they came out, with the shiny scale effects. Can you tell us?

Really easy!

Heavy dry-brush of gunmetal over a black undercoat. Two thin washes of green and blue ink (the second while the first is still wet), when that's completely dry another light dry-brush of gunmetal, then a final high-light of silver. I also had to black-line a few of the scales that were more shallow than the others.

The eyes were thickly painted with very pale grey, then I swirled in white while the grey paint was still wet, for that glassey dead look.

A Raid of Murderous Intent!

The noise of normal in-camp squabbles was mounting as the evening’s grog-drinking really got under way. Kap’n Hadduk’s Black Orcs, the Halibuteers, left the rowdy disorganised Pirates to their carousing and headed to the northern edge of the camp, aiming for the Grog-Shop known as the Unlucky Grot. As they approached it they spotted humans in the green and blue uniforms of the Sartosa Trading Company jogging down the hill! They were after the Magic Banner that the Pirates had captured last week – the cheeky gitz!

The Fishmen ran forward as the Company’s men took cover behind the Grog-Shop.

Company sailors and soldiers took their positions.

Makrul and two Ladz got ready to receive the charge!

Kod and Kap’n Hadduk covered the Fishman who grabbed the Banner.

A ragged volley of handgun fire and bullets zipped passed the Fishmen.

Kod got hit in the arm and went down as the Company soldiers charged, while the sailors were right behind them. The Fishman with the banner was knocked down and a Halbardier nabbed it, running north for his life!

Makrul’s Ladz took down the front line of Swordsmen

But were counter-attacked by the second line and the pistol-wielding Captain Neskijn

As Hadduk is taken out by an expertly placed sword-thrust the rest of his Boyz fall foul of the Halberdiers, then the soldiers and sailors descend on poor Kod, over half a dozen of them setting about him as he desperately and unsuccessfully tried to fed off the rain of blades.

The Halberdier with the Banner made it to the safety of the Handgunner’s line.

Makrul – the last surviving Fishman – was surrounded and brutally filleted!

Tragedy! Those poor fish boys should not have fallen to mere Imperial scum! I mourn their loss.

I hope that when they are laid on the funeral pyre, someone sees fit to pour a white-wine and butter sauce on the bodies, and turn them after five minutes so the meat doesn't cook all the way through.
