Enfilade 2014 Sky Galleons of Mars game
« on: June 21, 2014, 07:47:21 AM »
This was one of the games I played in at Enfilade this year.  All of the ships were scratchbuilt, and bloody beautiful.

The goal was to rescue a handful of American captives, so they told us not use any guns that could possible kill the prisoners inside the cloudships.  The 3 British commanders immediately decided that the prisoners could not possibly be in the flanking ships, and promptly blew them all to heck - almost entirely by me commanding the Aphid.

And yeah, 2 of the 3 prisoners dies in that first fusillade.  Whoops.   :?

You've made my day. Thanks for posting  :D

Any details of construction and types of ships would be great.I can see some Hullcutters but not all the pics show clear shots of the whole cloudships to work out their class.

The Martian ships were cut from foam, and had a cloth with a wooden plank print glued on - it works remarkably well.  For other hints, you can hope that HerbyF posts in here, because he is part of the group that plays with these regularly.  These were all the shots I took with my less than stellar cell phone camera - my good camera had the batteries die just before this game.  :?

I know that I commanded the Aphid, while the ship based on a Star Wars Skiff was an American Ranger.  I don't recall what the other British vessel was. I did, however, startle the opposition a bit when I flew straight between the two cloudships, and pull a 180 to come back though again.  I was devastating the crew with my Nords and 1-pounders.  At the end though, I had cost us the game by killing hostages in the first barrage.

Still, it was fun - makes me want to stat out my Norwegian fleet for Sky Galleons, and drive up to Washington the next time they have a major get-together.

I may just weep! That's SO beautiful!

Give any thought to floor stands? Deserves more room than a table can supply!

Prepared with GOOD batteries, I should say! >:(

Just teasing; these are awesome! Thanks!

It just occurred to me that the Warlords version on floor bases was referred to as Cloudships of Mars, the original GDW rules of which used deck maps.

Did this have any fighting on deck?

Oh, and you know this gets a link in the Aeronef Et Al sticky...

They are using a modified version of the original Sky Galleons/Cloudships rules - modified slightly for the sake of using it as 28mm.  Just convert the hexes to a base measurement of 10", and it works pretty well. Unfortunately, as I said, these are the only photos I took, and they were with an old cell phone camera.  And I mainly took them for my own sake.

HerbyF - get on here and tell them how these were made and stuff!

Well I didn't have any part of building these ships. They were all built by Gene, one of the group member who is a wizard at building terrain. He also built all the Chinese city walls we used in our Boxer rebellion game a couple of years ago & the Martians city wall we used in a game last year. They have a foam core body with wood plank pattern cloth starched over the body. He spent the last 11 months building the six Martian ships seen here. They are all based on the ships in the Sky Galleons & Cloudships rules. I will try to get together with Gene & get pictures of them all & post them. Will also try to get him to join us here & maybe do a tutorial. My own little skiff didn't make it to this battle though. BTW That was the first out for the Matian ship, first time I saw them too. Gene was really good at keeping them under wraps.

That is still more than I could remember.

I need to stat out my Norwegians for Sky Galleons, and bring them up when you guys have a battle sometime.  You guys are fun to play with - I wouldn't mind making that trip once in a while.
