My Phantom Ace conversion plus...
« on: 10 July 2014, 08:07:32 PM »
All,
      I finally went ahead with my head swap for Phantom Ace.  The head is from a Pulp Figures Merchant Sailor whom I had a duplicate of.  He has exactly the look I wanted.  I painted up Pulp Girl in farily standard fashion.  Lillie is meant to represent my 3 1/2 year old grand daughter, who loves spending time in my den looking at my toys and "helping" me paint.  Who knows, maybe she will be another Mila in a few years!  Anyway, here is the flickr link -

Thanks.  I am tempted to change his weaponry to a single Broom handle Mauser.  What do you think?  Are the .45s more "All American"?

Its harder to get more Pulpy American than the m1911 Colt .45.
The c96 is the default Pulp pistol to me. Though German made, the c96 is not tied just to Germany because of its widespread use around the globe. When I want to emphasize a mini is the bad guy or German or both, I give it a Luger.

Or in other words, in my twisted Pulp mini world;
Good Guys get Colts
Bad Guys get Lugers
Everyone gets Broomhandles

All three are super cool pistols and honestly you can't go wrong giving a pulp mini any of the above.

I love the Broomhandles!  I got to play around with one with the wooden stock/holster unit.  Fired a few dozen rounds from it.  Very neat unit.

Very nice.
I have a replica of the broomhandle but thats not quite the same.
Though I do have a Luger from 1918 that shoots oh so sweetly, and is to quote the Missus, 'a very sexy pistol."
A 1911 and c96 have been on my wish list for decades.

Never fired a Luger.  PPK's and P-38's though.  PPK's are LOUD!  Could light a match with the P-38 at 50 feet.  The Mauser has a real "Whatever happened to the future" look about it.

De-hijack:  Killer conversion!

WELL Said Amalric!!

A very valid system, might need to consider that meself.
Where does one acquire vast hoards of 28mm Broomandles, Lugers n'sich?

I am tempted to change HER weaponry to a single Broom handle Mauser.

Fixed it for ya Nick!!  Pulp Girl really needs a Broomhandle, instead of that Super-Whizzo Acme Joy Buzzer...

If I may quote from another forum an erudite pundit with vast experience, acumen and bravado:

Quote
There are jolly good reasons why .45 ACP 1911s & derivative models of John Browning's marvelous design are carried for duty, protection, defence, competition and FUN, EVERY SINGLE Day of the year. These pistols are FIRED, regularly, frequently, and furiously, with ammunition that remains "readily" available.
Try that with ANY other automatic pistol built a century ago. Can't do it, not one other model remains in use, much less production.

Lugers, Broomhandle Mausers, Savages, Astras, Borchardts and Webley-Fosberrys all look, sound and seem cool, but WORK? Nah. Museum pieces all.
For their own individual good reasons none of them remain serviceable in this day and age.

ONLY other pistol that even comes to mind is, well, dang it, Colt's 1873 Peacemaker… Do I see a pattern here?

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Wait, I did, didn't I?

By the way, Tin Man minis have a fantastic c96 AND a 1911 on their weapon sprue (as well as a Winchester, Remington, and peacemaker).  :D

Fram,
         Just looked at them.  $3.00 to get a single C96 and 1911 is pretty steep.

Nick,

Tinman is the BEST!
His service and sculpting are top notch. This is the personal shop of the sculptor who sculpted the Valkeeri, and the Snake Priestess from my recent post, and many many others. Whenever I order minis from Tinman, I add a weapons sprue just in case.  ;) If you can't find any other minis from Tinman that you need, drop me a PM and I'll mail you a spare weapons sprue I have.

Also, the best luger I've found is by Victory Force in his choose a hand feature.

As shown in the conversion below;

Mila,

To answer your question from TMP, Prof Weiss is Reaper's Chronoscope Prof Laura;

She got a new right hand holding a Luger from Victory Force. The VF Luger is the best out there. Trust me I know  ;).
I also gently twisted her head to face to the right like she is aiming.

Thanks, but if I decide to get them, I'll order a few sprues.
