Today, a little more History - About Dinosaurs, Carrion, and Primes (it's quite a long one, so get stuck in)
That's Just The Way It Is . . . . . .
S.D.Z.A. (Super-Hero Dinosaur Zombie Apocalypse) is set in a Universe different and yet very parallel to our own.
In 1983 (generally referred to as the "Year of Chaos" a number of Projects put into motion by obsessive greed of the Mega Corporation known as 'Uni-Tech' caused the world to be plunged into mayhem - the fences of the Uni-Tech Dino-Parks came tumbling down, leading to widespread Dinosaur Attacks and 'other' more unexpected problems.
It all (pretty much) started in the mid 1960's when British Secret Agent Jacob Nexus, was investigating Uni-tech at the behest of the British Government - and as a consequence was exposed to a process that was code named Project Rebirth - the accidental exposure left Nexus Virtually Immortal and with amazing Regenerative Powers. He was (for all intents and purposes) Indestructible - even when his body is completely destroyed, Nexus now fully regenerates - returning to with his memories and experiences intact, but with a different face and slightly different personality (something which vexed his superior at the Ministry, a woman known only as Fairfax, greatly).
To really understand a little of what led to the Creation of the Dinosaurs, where the Carrion came from, and how man now lives side by side with in the modern world - we need to take a look at a section from the History of the S.D.Z.A. World
1947 - An Alien Craft crashes in Roswell, New Mexico - before it is recovered by the US Military, several enterprising Civilians are seen running from the wreckage carrying heavy metallic items - the individuals are never caught or identified. Fearing that private citizens now have Alien Technology under their control, an executive order from U.S. President Harry S. Truman causes the creation of a branch of the secret service, dedicated to the Investigation of Extra-Terrestrial Activity - they are known only as Majestic 12. MJ12 Dubs these citizens 'Greymen'.
1951 - Several major corporations have major technological and pharmaceutical breakthroughs made by new Employees - these still unidentified individuals, quickly rise to power and influence - taking stock options and making private financial investments. These Greymen left their employment in 1954 - taking a lot of their discoveries and business contacts with them.
1955 - Uni-Tech is formed, it becomes obvious to both the British and American Governments that the Greymen are intent on infiltrating and controlling powerful business and political circles.
1959 - Uni-Tech, who at this time were using Lone-Star Instruments (a Uni-Tech subsidiary) as a front for their 'new innovations' - introduces "the Micro Chip".
1962 - British Intelligence and the Federal Bureau of Investigations begin their investigations of Uni-Tech.
1963 - Kennedy is Assassinated - Kennedy was preparing to amend the National Labour Relations Board statutes and various Internal Revenue Service statues that would prevent foreign flag shipping from being exempt from American income taxes, Uni-Tech knew this would benefit their competitors thus weakening their financial stranglehold on American Business Practices. MJ12 knew of this plan, but as Kennedy had recently declared to Captain Martin Black (the head of Majestic 12) that he would be shutting them down, as they were proving ineffectual at bringing the Greymen to account - as a consequence MJ12 and their 'friends' in the C.I.A. allowed the assassination to take place.
1964 - British Agent Jacob Nexus is exposed to the Project Rebirth Technology, as a result he finds it has bestowed amazing regenerative powers upon him - he is the world’s First Prime.
1967-1969 - It was later revealed that Elvis Presley was working undercover as a federal agent for the American President Protection committee. This was a cover up - Presley was actually working Undercover for MJ12 - as Majestic were convinced that the Uni-Tech had infiltrated the Music Industry.
1971 - Uni-Tech send two of their best operatives Mr Smith and Mr Glover up against British Agent Jacob Nexus, Mr Smith and Mr Glover manage to terminate (or so they thought) Agent Nexus whilst Nexus is on a Mission to Nevada investigating Willard Dean, an eccentric Billionaire. Nexus miraculously recovers, even though his head, face, and body were smashed beyond repair - and for the first time exhibits full bodily Regeneration. When he has fully recovered, he is quite literally a new man. This proves to Uni-Tech that Project Rebirth works (albeit in an unusual and unpredicted way) - and so Uni-Techs work on Project Rebirth continues with a new urgency.
1971 - London Bridge is brought to the U.S. - the process is funded by Uni-Tech, it is not known why.
1974 - U.S. President Nixon is forced to resign by Uni-Tech; they are blackmailing him over events that DIDN'T become Public Knowledge. The Watergate fiasco was just a warning to Nixon that Uni-Tech meant business.
1975 - Uni-Tech reveals its plans for Project Rebirth to the Public, the revivification of Dinosaurs for scientific research and 'Ressurective Preservation' - as the Uni-Tech PR Team calls it. Starting with the Dinosaurs first (in theory the most difficult of subjects) they plan on returning all extinct species to their natural environment. To make the cloning process fast and efficient, they use (in theory) useless DNA code from a harmless Virus to speed up the cellular replication process.
1976 - The First tests of Virus Compatibility with Dinosaur DNA go horribly wrong, these mistakes escape the laboratory - resulting in the deadly flesh eating Virus Outbreaks in the Sudan and Zaire.
1976 - The First Dinosaurs begin to grow rapidly in the controlled growth tanks at a Uni-Tech research Laboratory in Nevada. The three Compsognathus test subjects reach full maturity in just 30 Days.
1978 - The First Test-Tube Baby is born finally proving the Viability of the Re-Birth process - this achievement becomes Uni-Tech's biggest and most successful PR project.
1978 - Uni-Tech, now having reached a position where they can viably Grow any Dinosaur species they want within a matter of weeks - Announce their plans to create Dinosaur Wildlife preserves around the world, the basic "tour" will have a nominal cost of entry to the public - but "V-I-P" tours would also be available for the super rich, who have a desire to get closer to these amazing Animals.
1979 - The Uni-Tech research facility under Three Mile Island has an flesh eating Virus outbreak, hundreds of Staff become infected. The spread of the disease is unprecedented; mostly because those infected became violent and and tried to bite the non-infected. Such physical contact spreads the contagion readily. Uni-Tech decides to detonate a small yield Nuclear Device to "cleanse" the underground facility - this leads to a partial nuclear meltdown in the Power Station above.
1981 - As a side effect of the Uni-Tech Re-Birth research - various new S.T.D.s are released on an unsuspecting public. This information is not publicly known, so Uni-Tech are not held accountable - Journalists, Researchers, and Doctors all begin to theorize as to the origins of these new diseases.
1981 - The first Dino-Parks start to open, outside Windsor in the UK, Las-Vegas in the USA, Saint-Tropez in Europe, Sydney in Australia.
1981 - The first new Primes (a term coined by the British press when referring to anyone with super-normal powers) start to appear - in London a Boy picks up and throws a Car whilst having a Tantrum, whilst in New York a man 'Flies' to save a the life of his brother who's fallen off a twenty story buildings Roof. Scientists are baffled; there is seemingly no explanation for this.
1982 - Smaller Dino-Parks start opening all over the world - by this time Uni-Tech have re-created Prehistoric Plant Life as well. Despite some "shaky" research, Uni-Techs plans are going well - and they are hailed as the "Saviours of the Modern Age" - as Project Re-Birth could in theory end Poverty and Famine in our time.
1982 - The first Carrion outbreak occurs Pennsylvania - in particular the cities of Pittsburgh and Monroeville get overrun. The outbreak started in a Uni-Tech research facility just outside of Pittsburgh. Within weeks such outbreaks are happening all over the world. These 'Carrion' (the US press describes these walking dead as "Carrion") are becoming more and more of a public health and safety issue.
1982 - A Carrion Outbreak in the Nevada Desert causes the Dinosaurs to escape the enclosures at the Dino-Park there. Chaos ensues; pretty soon Las Vegas is overrun by Carrion - and the various Carnivores that escaped the Park start picking off the survivors. By the time a Nuclear Strike is agreed on by the Pentagon - it is too late. As Victorville, Barstow and Baker are overrun. For some reason there seems to be way more Dinosaurs at large (including species that were never originally present on the tours) than were in the enclosures at the Dino-Park.
1983 - Dinosaur Attacks are Widespread, the Carrion are becoming more and more of a problem - fortunately the Larger Carnivores stop the Carrion from completely taking over, and the Carrion stop the smaller Predators becoming too much of an issue for local populations. A Nuclear response is no longer viable - as both the Dinosaurs and the Carrion are too wide spread now.
1983 - Things are beginning to stabilize, huge walls are erected around the surviving Cities that have the resources to do so - mankind is now spread out - Communication and Trade between these City States becomes a huge priority.
In the last thirty years the surviving population of the World now live within Walled "City States" - both Wales, Scotland and Mexico sealed themselves off from the world and the first signs of Trouble - Wales and Scotland still flourish, but Mexico fell to a massive Carrion Outbrake - and is referred to as "Tierra de los Muertos" (the "Land of the Dead") - chancers and adventurers, still climb its walls to enter - looking for loot, or bloody fun.
A huge Earthquake rocked California, destroying much of Santa Barbara and Los Angeles - now a huge walled community known as San Angeles stands on what remains of the coastline (after much of it fell into the sea) - San Angeles is the center of Technology and Learning for the U.C.S.A. (United City States of America)
The Neo-Germanic Alliance grew out of the ashes of Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Belgium - banding together to create the Alliance after their armies and populations became so diminished and spread out. Underground railways link the City States of Berlin, Vienna, Zürich, Brussels together - forming a strong community spread across the four Countries. This has not been without its problems, as a desire to expand and the need for resources has caused the N.G.A. to lock horns with other Nations and City States.
Greater London (basically what remains of London and its surrounding areas), Wotan (a huge area that spans Wolverhampton, Dudley, and Birmingham), and smaller walled communities dotted about, have all seen Dinosaurs rampaging through their streets. When disaster struck, a large chunk of greater London was lost - Bekenham, Romford, and Croydon were overrun by Carrion and sealed off from the rest of the City, those districts are now overgrown with strange prehistoric plant life - like some huge pre-historic safari park, the Carrion are all but gone, either rotted away or eaten by smaller Carnivorous Dinosaurs.
On the whole, most Dinosaurs stay close to the City Walls, they seem to be attracted to the smell and the noise. Gun emplacements and electrified netting keep most at bay, and there are very few Dinosaur Incursions (or Carrion Outbreaks) these-days - but they remain an ever present danger.
