Ship Fittings
« on: August 08, 2014, 03:31:05 AM »
In particular, I'm looking for some inexpensive stern lanterns for some ships I bought from OG25's August sale. I did a Google search and found some pricy ones from overseas locations. The ships are 25mm scale. Any recommendations would be helpful.

I'm also pretty crafty to fabricated such items, so any ideas would be helpful too.

Thank you.

You might find some Halloween decorations that are small enough - possibly cake decorations?

Or try looking for ear-rings or beads. Lanterns aren't common, but I found mermaid "figureheads" in a bead shop. You often find some glass beads in a wire "cage" that look like round lanterns, but there are other shapes.

Perhaps somewhere like Michael's or Hobbycraft since you are the wrong side of the pond.

For hand-crafting why not Sculpy or Fimo?

What about the Lemax old carriage style street lights? They should be close enough in size to use. Also, I think Old Glory sell street lights in their Old Chicago Gangster range that are 25 - 28mm in size.

Great ideals.  Well since I took off work today, I think I will make my way to Michaels and even to Hobby Lobby.  I was looking at street light lamp posts in the model railroad section, and looks pretty close to pass for a ships lantern. Will have to go through the OG web site too.

Thanks again!!!

Some Lego or Mega Blocks lanterns are about the right size. Also some of the model ship building supply companies have them. Just look at the ship fittings from 1/72 o 1/48 scale to find the size you want. I have some of the nicest brass & bronze cannons for some of my ships that way. Also ships wheels.

Try 'Grubby Tanks' here in the U.K. He is a nice fellow & has the old Britania ranges, which includes ship fittings, like lanterns/figure heads/cannons etc etc.

These lanterns on the stern were from railway scale lamp posts, they originally had LEDs in them and could be wired up.
So much to do, so little time...
